On his second Sunday as pastor of First Baptist Church in 1959, a man came onto the platform to continue some high-brow, high-church tradition that First Baptist Church of Hammond was used to. What did young pastor Jack Hyles do to remove him from the platform?

I'm hurt no one tried to answer this. The answer is that he kicked the man in the seat of the pants.

The story came to me from the son of one of the 269 people who voted against Jack Hyles in 1960 and left FBC.

I never heard this and find it hard to believe.  Bro Hyles always taught that he didn't do too much changing until after the first year after accepting the pastorate, including choir robes, baptizing only once a month, music only lead by the organist on Sunday mornings, etc.  What traditional role was this man trying to do before getting kicked in the seat of his pants?

We need input from bgwilkinson on this one, if this is true or is Tennessean been misinformed with this story!

Dr. Hyles father died of a heart attack and was embalmed by a funeral home in Dallas. Who was the famous figure that was also embalmed by this funeral home several years later?

Just guessing, but JFK or LBJ?

The story is questionable I admit. As a freshman at HAC I became good friends with one of my roomates. He got a job with a company that hac students didn't normally work at. The fellow who trained him told him the story and that his parents had been part of the group that left fbc. I never could get confirmation from another source.

Maybe BG could confirm if he knows

It was a separate building artificially connected by a veneer, hallways and a tunnel.

They used a light blue carpet in place of wallpaper.

Over the year security guards would kick their feet up onto the carpet, so it was worn about 2 feet from the ground.

On a monday during the summer of 1992 Dr. Hyles emerged from his office on his way to the airpor. Randy Ericson was there and he told Randy to remodel the hallway. But they left a 1/2 inch of carpet at the top.

I wonder how many college students got carpet burns from getting thrown out of Jackie-boy's office because they forget to write their questions out on 3 X 5 cards for him to read.

President Kennedy

After the autopsy at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Kennedy's body was prepared for burial by embalmers from Gawler's Funeral Home in Washington.
