Why were we so "enamored" with Dr. Hyles?

What do you mean by "he would call on me often?"
He would talk to me during the sermon, or even bring me up on the platform.

Once he said "Mike Ramsey is the worst kid who ever grew up here".
He was trying to encourage the wayward 20somethings.
My wife looked at me, "Why did he say that about you?"
"I told you I had a past."
"Yes, but you didn't tell me that you had that much of a past."

Thanks, Bro. Hyles.

Not a bad hockey player though...oh wrong Mike Ramsey

I'm not sure if Bro. Martinez ever sang at Pastor's School during Hyles' time but he did sing at Pastor's School during the Schaap administration. Schaap thought Martinez hung the moon and stars and so did the comedian Tony Hutson. Hutson's had Martinez sing at his church numerous times.

How many have you have ever seen Hyles throw microphone stands/kick over microphone stands on the stage? He's done it a few times and there's video proof of it.

So, let's see, you are clueless, have a man-crush and apparently are ADHD.

Just look up on "Jack Hyles women wearing pants" on YouTube. There are plenty of clips of Hyles and even his crony Larry Brown going off on gals in "Britches".

To the man with the man-crush on Alvin:  Since your source of all things Bro. Hyles is the internet, stay quiet and let the people who lived there for 20 plus years do the analyzing.  Feel free to make comments, but recognize that others might have more experience and information.  Good luck in your lust of all things Alvin.

oh - and - bonjour!

Hey, at least he likes Alvin Martinez and not Liberace!

Or Mike Zachary!  8)

What, too soon?
Never.  You we're telling those jokes in High School, probably.

Only I've cleaned up my act a little since then.  ;D

And you think Martinez hung the moon and stars as well.

Hyles certainly was revered, world famous, and charismatic. He was real tight with Jack Treiber (a Hyles Disciple).

Other things to not about the "Pope"

1 He started to wear dark sunglasses quite a bit starting in the late 80's. He looked like Ray Charles in the pulpit when he had them on.

2. Hyles usually threw microphone stands or kicked them over quite a bit. (There are videos on YouTube of it).

3. He had a personal vendetta against John MacArthur and John Piper that he carried with him to the end of his life.

4. He had a personal vendetta against Oral Roberts, Robert Schuller, Paul Crouch, Kenneth Copeland, Jimmy Swaggert, Jim & Tammy Bakker that he kept for the remainder of his life.

5. He didn't like Pensacola or Greg Mutsch.

6. He always advocated his personal hatred of CCM music, girls wearing pants, girls wearing shorts, long hair on men, men wearing shorts etc.

7. He had his own "comedy team" at Youth Conference that performed 1920's Vaudeville that was so behind the times since he didn't want the kids to listen to George Carlin, Robin Williams, Richard Pryor etc.

8. His cronies became famous in the Fundamental World (Jack Trieber/Larry Brown/Tony Hutson/Jim Vineyard/Al Lacy/Larry Smith/Phil Kidd)

9. He almost always drove Cadillacs or Lincolns.

10. He claimed to hate computers with a passion

^^^ So, this is why you were enamored with him?  SMH

If you ever heard Hyles preach or watch some of his YouTube videos you would know he vehemently detested "Women wearing pants", CCM music, Paul Crouch/Oral Roberts/Robert Schuller, and he was not a fan of John MacArthur.

O.K?

You act like nobody on here has never not one time heard or seen this.  No one needs to look up JH on YouTube, been there done that.  SMH

Hyles has plenty of defenders on here.

To this day Jack Trieber still mentions "The Pope" in his sermons.

1 He started to wear dark sunglasses quite a bit starting in the late 80's. He looked like Ray Charles in the pulpit when he had them on.                (Dr.Hyles wore plastic frame glasses from the 60s to death. I don't know why he didn't wear wire frames. I was told that he preached against them due to the hippies and wouldn't wear them. His glasses were not sun tinted either.)

2. Hyles usually threw microphone stands or kicked them over quite a bit. (There are videos on YouTube of it).

3. He had a personal vendetta against John MacArthur and John Piper that he carried with him to the end of his life.                      (Look up vendetta. He didn't have one against him. He had a vendetta against Calvinism, which MacArthur leans towards + MacArthurs view of the blood of Christ)

4. He had a personal vendetta against Oral Roberts, Robert Schuller, Paul Crouch, Kenneth Copeland, Jimmy Swaggert, Jim & Tammy Bakker that he kept for the remainder of his life.              ( his fight was with their doctrine. As a kid I heard him say that he was rooting for Jim Bakker and hoped the accusations were unfounded. So much for a vendetta)

5. He didn't like Pensacola or Greg Mutsch.            ( he didn't like a school ran church. Also his fight with PCC was about their stance on he KJV. He gave them a chance in he 90s to pick a side before he preached about them at pastors school. PCC thought it was funny because they were a bit late to the TR party and were in the final days of research about the issue when hyles called. I heard this from Greg Mutch and Del Johnson)

6. He always advocated his personal hatred of CCM music, girls wearing pants, girls wearing shorts, long hair on men, men wearing shorts etc.                          (he preached against any music that was not God honoring. He stood by modesty and and view that Clothing  maytag bravos water pump w10281682 substitutesshould cover and not cling. He was against men having long hair, so is the bible 1cor 11:14. Grab a year book and look at the men wearing shorts In The basketball games at HAC. Grab a HBHS year book and look at he wrestlers wearing singlets)

7. He had his own "comedy team" at Youth Conference that performed 1920's Vaudeville that was so behind the times since he didn't want the kids to listen to George Carlin, Robin Williams, Richard Pryor etc.
(The skits were not vaudeville. Most were pretty funny. Anyone remember YC 93 when the dude fell from the ceiling? PS you'd tell your youth group to listen to Richard Pryor?)

8. His cronies became famous in the Fundamental World (Jack Trieber/Larry Brown/Tony Hutson/Jim Vineyard/Al Lacy/Larry Smith/Phil Kidd)

(Larry brown, Tony Hutson, Larry Smith and Phil Kidd were not his cronies and not too famous.
1. Brown pastored in Iowa. Didn't preach at FBCH until hyles died, by my recollection
2. Hutson father was in he boys club with Hyles, not Tony
3. Smith pastored and moved to Hammond and taught personal evangelism (knock 7 times) I heard him preach In chapel 2 times in 4 years
4. Phil Kidd was never in the Hyles camp. He was too radical for Moses.)

9. He almost always drove Cadillacs or Lincolns.

(He bought his missions teacher, Maurice Paulson, the exact car he drove. A blue Dodge Shadow. Yep that's close to a caddy. The church bought him a high end 2 door Mercury cougar for 37 yrs of service. It's was not a caddy or lincoln.)

10. He claimed to hate computers with a passion. (What old person doesn't?)

It's very obvious to those of us that were there that you need to go back to the minors, son. You are out of your league.

Since you are asking, I was in at least one service where he kicked over at least one microphone stand.  Also have been in "services" in which he tore up a hymnal (I saw him check with the pastor before the "message").  Also been in a service where there was a vase with flowers on the Lord's Supper table that he knocked over... that may have been an accident; they next time he preached, they removed the vase and substituted a coloring-book picture of a vase with flowers, which Hyles proceeded to tear up. (I thought this was pretty childish).

Hyles throwing stuff/knocking stuff down on stage was a riot. Larry Brown climbs the pulpit, smashes televisions, and threatens Rick Warren.

Why not imagine MZ playing the piano as they carry on and you singing?

That has happened before BTW. Bro. Martinez has his own personal pianist when he goes on tour. His name is David Webster another NVBC/GSBC staff member.

Also, bay area band Alias asked Alvin to be their lead singer but he turned them down to stay in the ministry.
