The Worthless Thread for Specifically Increasing Post Numbers

a while back we were discussing whether the F-18 was a better combat aircraft than
the F-14 it replaced.... .. many in the fighter jet community believe the F-14 was
retired too early and that even with it;s upgrades the F-18 super hornet cannot

equal what the tomcat could do..... ofcourse others in the fighter jet community
disagree and believe the F-18 is superior..... but one of the frequently ignored
and overlooked problems is that the F-18 platform cannot carry missles with
the same long range capability as the F-14 can.... something that is very
important in naval long range carrier operations....

meanwhile iran has kept it;s F-14 tomcats upgraded with russian and reversed
engineered technology ...(something we also could have done with our own
much better technology)
.... and those irainian F-14 tomcats are still very

much feared and respected in that part of the world....

here is a set of contests between an up to date F-18 super hornet and an F-14 tomcat

configured and equipped as a current iranian F-14 would be...... it;s all done on a
digitial air combat similator....
.

and this one is a close range fight between an american configured and equipped
F-14 and an F-18...both have aim 9m heat seeking missiles but no long range fox3s..
.... again it;s all on a digital air combat similator... because.... while it might
not be as realistic as an actual air to air contest it;s a whole lot safer.... ;)

Great info and fun to watch. Thank you!

I've been to "Top Gun" at Fallon NAS and performed some work in the ready-rooms at both Luke and Nellis AFB. (all I can admit to was that "anti-gravity" was involved) These places are like giant testosterone-generation plants. The pilots are "something else".

But here's the thing: Unless we go to "war" with, say, Kenya, in a REAL war with a major super-power, the carriers these things fly off of are nothing more than giant targets. They will be sunk almost instantly with hypersonic missiles, of which there is little to no defense. The planes themselves will be blown from the skies with the same, or better, technology.

Did anyone else catch the major flaw (probably more than one) in the closing of Top Gun Maverick? It was amazing to me that a 5th-Gen fighter couldn't even detect the approach, much less a missile being fired at it, by that other F-18.

It's all something to think about when you hear them whine about needing "more money".

i did notice that.... .. the enemy fighter in the movie is supposed to be a russian made SU 57 felon.. ... a 5th generation fighter that has a lot of features russia still keeps classified.... . ..but it is believed it has some of the same capabilities as our F-22 raptor...(though not as good)..... and that it can see approaching planes from all angles both through radar and also infrared visual imaging... (<--- or something like that...i;m not sure what they actually call it... ...) ... and the moment something has it on radar it gets a signal that it has been "painted" and if being tracked.... .another signal it that radar locks onto it and selects it as a target...and another when a missile has been launched at it..... . ... portraying it getting caught by surprise like that from behind by an F-18 was a stretch of cinema artistry.. .... but it helped make an exciting movie........ ...

Trump voters have been identified as a 'bitter clingers, deplorables, racists, fascists, and pieces of garbage." That's quite a resume.
Wonder what the fertile Democrat minds will say next to alienate half the country?
And if Kamala wins, how will Trump voters be treated since we are all of the above mentioned things?

Given the source, I take those descriptions as compliments.
