OK, here goes.

Teenage soul-winning on Saturdays were amazing. As teens, we would go out to the concrete jungles and play basketball with the locals and after games witness to them. Week after week, we would see scores come to Christ.

One day while in Merrillville, my friend Kevin and I saw a couple guys shooting hoops at a park. We approached them and suggested a game of two-on-two. Sure enough, they agreed.

The score was tied 9-9 with the 10th point being the game-winner. Now, I don't know exactly what happened because I have never dunked a basketball in my life, even on an 8 foot rim, but I felt this surge over me. Kevin passed me the ball down low and as I leaped, I found myself skying, not only over my opponent, but also the rim. I raised the ball to the sky and jammed it down the cylinder. The opponent stood there in awe that I slammed the ball over him to win the game.

After the game, we started talking to the two fellas. My oponent I had dunked over was named Gregg "with 2 Gs" as he said. He told me that in all his years playing for Merrillville High School, no one had ever dunked on him. I explained to him how God endues with power and He gave me the ability to dunk the ball. Gregg sweetly got tears in his eyes and said, "I was dunked on for Jesus" and he bowed his head and asked Jesus into his heart.

A couple decades later, Gregg became an NBA head coach and has won a couple of championships!

Let me critique if I may.  Let's see if the important elements are present.

* Event happens while serving in a ministry.  You were on Teen Soul Winning.  Check!
* Numbers must be glorified.  You used the word "scores" when referring to the numbers you would see saved.  Check!
* Personal pronouns must be used in rapid fire fashion.  All I can say is, "Nicely done!"  Check!
* There must be a supernatural event.  You were able to jump close to 3 feet higher than you ever have.  Check!
* You must take things to a spiritual level.  Oh yes!  Check!
* In the end, you must be the hero.  Check!

:)

A couple more check points:

1. Convert must be humbled in some way.
2. The word "sweetly" must be used in describing the salvation experience.
3. The head must always be bowed, never looking up to the sky.

Cre-HAC-tive writing at its finest.

What waas Mrs. Barber's class called?  Was it Preacher's Writing Seminar??

Yes, indeed it was!  ;D

I will have to look through some of my old Hacker memorabilia.  I believe it was in that class that we had to do a church bulletin.  A couple of the guys dared me to use preppy pictures and GQ lingo throughout the bulletin.  It was pretty funny and I believe I actually got a pretty good grade on it.

Yeah, my mom was pretty flexible when it came to the content. She was more concerned with the format. :)

She always had a good balance as a teacher.  She was all about doing it the right way and being serious about your work, yet she had a humorous side.  She would let us enjoy ourselves to a point.  :)

She was serious in what she taught and what she wanted us to learn and know, but she was never stodgy.  Good, balanced teacher.  I try to emulate some of that.

The only thing you emulate is all things CF!

I just received a message from a friend who was listening to a sermon by Dr. Hyles.  It was from Feb. 24, 1985.  In the sermon Dr. Hyles said, "You Hyles Anderson students, pardon my words, who call other students 'Hackers', you ain't gonna amount to much".  He said he about fell out of his chair!  :)

Wrong thread. This needs to go into the "Hyles' Quotes" thread.  :P

In your case, he was a prophet of truth.

Heat or Spurs?
Spurs in 5.

I have always been a Spurs fan even though I am not a bball enthusiast. I think it has to do with my admiration for David Robinson.

Got to lead a Hispanic lady to Christ this morning on visitation.  Never ceases to amaze me how God uses His Word.  Never gets old!

On a more spiritual note:
I am eating THE most delicious guacamole and salsa that I have ever tasted made by two faithful Hispanic ladies of God!
Whooo boy, I'm a gettin ready to speak in tongues!
Thank God for Hispanic people!

Gracias, Dios, por Latinos.

Wow!  The Spurs took a beatdown last night.  Hopefully they will bounce back in game 3.

Oh, they will.  Local commentator said Tim Duncan is the best player to ever play the game, and it will go to 7, and the Spurs will dominate game 7.  I tend to agree.
