The "craziest" sermons I have ever heard

what your parents don't know will hurt him by none other than Jack Schaap. I was there for this (looking at it now) confession of what he was/had been doing. If you haven't seen/ heard it it is here... If you can stomach it.

You gotta love at the beginning of the message how he says, "I'm going to be fairly transparent scripturally" and "I'm going to be very careful with my words".

OK, Hacker Nation, we have all heard our share of "crazy" sermons in our day.  Maybe the sermon had a unique title.  Maybe the sermon strayed far from the Biblical text.  Perhaps the sermon was presented in an unordinary fashion.

Tell us about it!!

I did not attend HAC. But the worst sermon I ever heard in person was preached at chapel at Crown College. I was present for Bill Grady's "Seven Signs of Pseudo King James Onlyism." In that sermon, Grady began by bragging on himself so much that we were all nauseated before he got to the "meat" of his sermon. He then took a minor detail from an account in Judges as the basis for his "sermon" (while ignoring the purpose of that passage all together). After what I think was about an hour and a half of him bragging, condemning our entire Greek department, and praising Peter Ruckman, Grady finally shut up. It was awful!

I'm surprised no one has brought up the night bus yet... No. Not surprised. Disappointed. Very disappointed in my fellow Hackers... No. Not disappointed. Grieved actually. Grieved.

Did Pastor Sexton set the record straight after the ranting and showboating ran its course?

I don't remember exactly what pastor Sexton said. But he said something to the effect of "You've created a lot of phone calls for me to answer and I don't appreciate it." He was as cordial as possible while explaining that he did not agree with Peter Ruckman. That chapel took place on a Wednesday morning. Grady was scheduled to preach that night . . . he didn't. He has never been invited back.

Last time I checked, Grady still has that sermon proudly posted on his website. It was a disgrace.

I was there also and decided then and there that I would no longer attend fbch. It was not even that the sermon was (in my opinion) borderline heretical and vulgar, It was all the people who went forward to the altar as I was walking out the back door. And I mean Scott Gray, Mason, and several others who were making their way to the front. I couldn't help but wonder if we all heard the same thing.

If I recall correctly you posted about it the next day or shortly thereafter, even before the JS news came out. That sermon isn't just bad. It is downright creepy. And your point regarding those who simply walked to the altar liked mind numbed robots is incredibly revealing of all that had become wrong with the system...

It will always be a mystery to me how Scott Gray stayed around and listened to Schaap's nonsense.  I realize Bob Gray can get off a bit, but no where near Schaap.

On a Sunday evening the pastor had a pastor friend of his from out of state speak.  He was preaching on repentance.  Half way through his message he said, "If you miss a day reading your Bible or praying, you are not saved".  Needless to say, a hush went through the auditorium.

Craziest sermons I heard were on the night bus and when I heard brother Schaap preach "Polished Shaft" at YC. I'll never forget the facial expressions of my youth group.

When one has accepted craziness and lies for decades one gets numb to it. It seems normal.

Jack Schaap preached a sermon on loyalty and then the altar call was "If you stand with me, come forward." And people did.

Is that a legit reason to go to the altar? Or was that his way of seeing who is loyal to him? We all know the answer.

That was when we knew we had to leave.

The Barney Sermon by Roger Casteel.

Joe Boyd preaching about oral s** in chapel.  Not a split one either.

Polished Shaft is Hall of Shame material for sure.

"All men are mental homosexuals."

And every time this subject comes up: "The Devil's Pool Party" by William Grady.

But you know, that is just off the top of my head.

That sure is a lot of vile material, guess it makes sense if it was at HAC.

Bro. Doug Kalapp

"The wickedness of big time wrestling & NASCAR".

Tom Williams pastor school sermon on a proper physical relationship in marriage.

Not crazy but highly graphic

I loved Bro. Marshalls sermon on Acts 26:14

He went into how some folks were....well it brought out the red faces and muted laughter.....
Wow.  What a wonderful theologian who is helping people grow towards God.

Why would people go to his church?

I think it is more that he did not understand the "urban dictionary" use of the word. It's in the Bible right? but it is not that kind of irritant Bob....

That was classic!  I don't know how he possibly couldn't know.

Was it Dr. Moore or Dr. Young who stood up afterward and told everyone they weren't allowed to quote the sermon?

Bob Marshall was/is a tool.

That's hilarious, he must've really got going and slipped.
