I meant that b/c younger pastors do not feel like questions are welcomed/encouraged by the movers/shakers of fundamentalism that they sometimes grow to think that those same leaders don't want to hear questions because they don't have any answers. Young preachers are often like teenagers. They are growing into themselves, and into their own mind, and wonder 'why?' a lot. If they aren't given the room by some wise old man to ask that, and then given answers by wise old men they may just jump ship to a different Christian boat.

I believe that was a weakness at HAC.  It was a "Here is what we believe and if you believe different you had better be quiet about it or we will show you the door".  Now, I do understand that philosophy to a point.  Without some level of that rule things could be a real mess.

It would have been nice to have more open discussions in some classes.  A great example would have been the KJV issue.  When I was at HAC you could not promote the KJV as God's perfect, inspired, preserved Word.  I had a friend that believed just that.  If you spoke out you would have been branded a Ruckmanite and shown the door.  It would have been nice if there would have been a class where topics such as this could have been viewed and discussed from both angles with the view of HAC being the one promoted.

Yes Bro. Hyles was a my way or the highway kinda guy. guy He often said I may have been wrong one time, I just don't remember when that might have been.
We should not be dogmatic about doubtful things. It makes one look like an idiot.
One should be able to support ones views with historically accurate facts, if not just remain silent.

The statement is a joke.  It was always said "tongue-in-cheek."  Context in king.  You are developing a habit of (willfully?) taking things out of context to promote your opinion.  I know someone else who had such a habit.  His story is quite public and a matter of record.

Certainly it's an old joke, one that most of us have probably heard. But if said often enough and more importantly exhibited in actions and other words it does make one look like an idiot.

So you don't like people repeating jokes.  Ok.
That hardly makes one guilty of the attributes the poster was attempting to ascribe him because he told a joke.

My point is that many people are pulling things out of context in efforts to promote untruth, or their version of truth.  This truly is bearing false witness.

WOW! Talking about taking things out of context to "promote your version of the truth"! Do I need to break down my sentences for you or do you just want to concede you might be taking my words out of context?

The lighting is really good in their new auditorium maybe you can pick her out in the audience. I did not see her in the choir.

Thank you for posting those. I enjoyed watching them. The last 20 minutes of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Singers PM Worship video with the alter call by Pastor Jim Cymbala was excellent.

I think Mrs. Hyles made a wise choice, she must be right at home in Dallas.
It sorta closes the circle as it's so close to her childhood home. And it's SBC  not IFB or IFBx and just like Hillcrest baptist church were they both attended.

I always enjoy hearing Pastor Cymbala. He is so refreshing and humble.
I've been to BT several times over the years and Pastor Cymbala is always right there greeting visitors just like our current Pastor Wilkerson. Pastor Jeffress sits on the front center pew with his wife and is a part of the crowd except when he is speaking, how homey. Its no wonder they love the man.

Yes. I attend Thomas Road here in Lynchburg, VA. I like that Jonathon Falwell sits on the front row until he gets up to preach. No rows of chairs for the pastors to sit up in front and look down at the congregation. I'm not saying that's wrong but I like that the last three churches I have been in the last 30 years have all been similar. I really liked the church I attended in Raleigh where the pastor stood at the front door and greeted everyone as they came through the door until it was almost time for the sermon even though it was a couple thousand people. Very humble man.

That seems like a very equitable arrangement. I grow more and more to dislike the "lords over us" message sent by having the men seated on their thrones across the elevated platform...

I attend a church with a somewhat large congregation.  The pastor and assistants do sit up on the platform.  I used to call them the supreme court judges, but having having a family member on staff enlightened me to the fact that sitting up there helps them, when on Monday morning, they meet and go over who may have been missing.  They all walk around greeting people until just before time to go up there (as does our pastor), but six might see a particular family or visitor, but one of them may have.

They all mingle AFTER the service as well.

I go to a church with a somewhat large congregation but they have three services. Each service has maybe 6 or 700 people. None of the staff sits on the platform nor does the pastor. He just steps up when it is time to preach. Coming from fbch though, the thing that is hard to get used to is the pulpit. FBCH had and has elaborate pulpits that are quite large. This pastor has a three cornered lecturn that they lift up and take down and probably weighs about 10 lbs. I'm sure it couldn't be more thant 150.00 - 200.00. (but of course we know that is because fbch believes in 'preachin' and hardly anyone else does. tongue in cheek here)

Had to be bullet-proof doncha know. :)

I hope you are trying to help me find Mrs. Hyles in one of these First Dallas videos.
Here is  another one. Great music still in old building.

After listening to this beautiful music performed so well it is easy to see why Mrs. Hyles is at home at First Dallas.
Can I say I'm a little jealous of their new auditorium and their music program. It's fantastic.
I've been to BT but these people have a much better orchestra. It's an orchestra to die for.
Their song leader can really sing.

Well I hope you all are trying to help me find Mrs. Hyles in at least one of these videos.
There are years of these available. We should find her in at least one of them if we look.

Here is another one.

Far less creepy people on this forum than the old FFF!!

A funny memory just resurfaced...it was December. Mrs. Hyles was singing her famous yearly rendition of "Sweet Little Jesus Boy", to the comfort and delight of all. (?) My husband had a small group of teens visiting, of A-American descent. One boy uttered loudly, "Give it up, white lady." Out of the mouths of babes...!!!! Hope  that is not too much of a sacred cow to have a little fun with.

I thought I was the only one who didn't "appreciate" her rendition of this song.

It was offensive on a couple of levels...musically and tastefully. I always scratched my head at that one, and breathed a sigh of relief when it was over.
