Whats with the shock regarding the home

Many people on this board have been in their home. It used to be smaller/humbler, albeit nicely kept up. Then, after JS took the pastorate the maintenance people on staff did a huge addition/expansion/renovation on their home. The project manager for that told me personally that the church paid for it but never voted on paying for it. That's the problem...

We have a definite problem, Houston.

Evelyn I'm so glad you're back well said... they have money...

Massage chair....a bit weird, I agree.

Bank vault....maybe all his firearms.

Family portrait above the fireplace.............

Interesting observance.  However, most people in her situation would have taken those down months and months ago.

I don't suppose we'll ever know what their home life was really like? Is it healthy for a marriage for a man to constantly put in 120 hrs a week? Even here at FBC I have to wonder what was done in those 120 hrs? (Well we know some of what was done) but with a large staff of assistants and personal staff as well what takes up 120 hrs? I can hear Raider now, " It's all about the numbers!"

Secondly I am now wondering as this addition was built did Cindy ever wonder, "Where is the money coming from to do all of this?"

The house still does not seem that over the top for the pastor of one of americas largest churches! IMO
(remember it's about the numbers)

I find it hard to believe the church paid for it, but no one voted on it or approved it.

I have some questions:

What is the mechanism at FBCH to account for the millions of dollars that come through the ministry? What accounting & auditing procedures did they have in place.
At most Baptist churches where does the accountability come from  & who does the oversight to see that money is spent according to the church budget and that it’s all accounted for.
I hear of pastors or church staff getting caught taking church money from time to time, what effective procedures do churches use to prevent this?

Yeah, the family portrait over the fireplace was a bit weird; I would have thought she would have taken down a long time ago.

Vault.  I'm guessing firearms as well.

Seems like a nice enough place TO GO HOME TO.

One piece of of advice for a happy marriage, GO HOME EVERY DAY.  (I know that doesn't work for those who travel on business, but you get my drift.)

So many good folks still at FBCH, and those whose families sacrificed to purchase HAC... It must be difficult to see this home.

Those who gave in the love offering are probably having second thoughts as well.

Let's just say, as a member of FBC, I was shocked at the house and its "humble" furnishings, a lot of furnishings.  It's quite humbling.  I had to laugh at the mantle piece picture.  Look at one picture and it's there and then the next clip, it's gone.  HMMM!  LOL!  :P

Cindy has not filed for diverse, in fact she still wears her wedding rings. She is now in Durham NC and doing great.

Okay now, you are showing your hackerness. How can she be doing great????? Her world has fallen apart in the last year. Her family will never be the same. The ministry her father handed to his sil is damaged greatly. She has had to leave the only home she has ever known at 54 years of age. (not easy)  Some of her grandchildren that she has been able to see every day since they were born will be far away. She has to adjust to a new life, new church, new community, etc. And she is doing great????

Oh right. I know what you will say. Just bake some cookies for a widow or go soul-winning and everything is fine. Yeesh!!

Just keep smiling and fake it till ya make it. Amen!

FWIW  I did work on the Schaap's house when they put on this addition and remodeling and I was paid directly by js from his personal account and not from the church.

It is just a wonderful thing for the people of fbch that they have a cracker jack administrative pastor who is in charge of all the finances. He will never let anyone pull-th-wool over the eyes of the church members.  (eyes rolling uncontrollably)

At first, I thought it was gone in the next picture too.  However, I think in relation to the mantle clock, it's actually hanging higher than what that second picture shows.

I would not want my family portrait to be shown on a website trying to sell my house.  I would think one would put personal things like that away, but perhaps she either forgot or did not realize that photograph with the portrait would be there.

Also, in some type of defense, I do not think it is too extravagant for a pastor.  I have more bedrooms and square footage in my house, although one less bathroom and half an acre less.  However, my house is not valued anywhere near that one.  I didn't realize Dyer was that "uppity" as far as real estate goes.

I find it odd that their primary residence is less than half the value of their getaway place in Crete. Did this house once belong to Arnie and Connie Brown?

You could bet that some realty agent is excited when he sees the listing activity on this one!

They had a cabin in Cadillac Michigan I'm about 40 miles from that location

The basement was finished using College employees on College payroll, using the College account at Schilling Lumber to order materials....
