You Can't Build a Church on Kids

I was shocked the first time I saw that! We have advertised before..No Charge!

Our VBS is a big deal to our people, they take it very seriously. They love the kids, have fun and give the gospel. My children attended, and then when they got old enough to help, they were given responsibilities! My oldest is in charge of the puppets!  The adults seem to "mentor" the teens.

I guess if you would see the summer camp prices around here, VBS must be just another daycare!!

FRAG, it sounds like you are getting everyone involved. And is well balanced. I have always felt it was import to reach children. We have a wonderful VBS at our church in the summer, we have many church members that help. All our teens have a part as well. John Mark actually does the singing. We might be one of the few churches that don't charge for VBS!!

Why would you charge for VBS? I have held many VBS and create the ones for our church and never charge anyone. We usually take up special offerings to cover the expenses.

Our church doesnt charge. Other churches in the area do, so no clue why they charge. Just guessing it would be to cover the cost or make money! Our church spends a good amount on VBS.

Something else for the "can't build a church on kids and teens" group.....

....kids grow up.  :)

Interesting.  I have never heard of charging for VBS, either.

Let me start by saying, I hope God blesses your summer kids' programs. I am not against them. I believe they have limited to zilch value in growing a church.

I am not a big advocate on relying on VBS, bus ministry or AWANA to grow churches. Why? Because relying on kids to build a church just does not work. Why would it?

How can parents be creatively incorporated in these programs? Why do we focus so heavily on a demographic that cannot grow a church?

Someone needs to ask the question... Might as well be me O0

Back to your OP...I think the experience of many here do not prove your ultimate point....children's programs have zilch value in growing a church. These programs very often attract parents and families, they hear the truth of the Gospel, trust Christ and help 'grow the church'. But the church must also have a process to disciple and grow the parents....

I see that. Well... I guess it is a good thing that I am not involved in children's ministry :D
I have been in multiple churches (large and small) and not one of them had much success.

Maybe people just don't like you!  :)
