So that would be a vote for
"Negatory, Big Ben; you're still too close. Yeah, them hogs is startin' to close up my sinuses. Mercy sakes, you better back off another ten."

Take your tithe or offering and buy an idea for an original thread topic....like pants on women.  :D

All things are lawful, but all things aren't expedient.

Same as Jehovah's...

"and spend the money for whatever you desire—oxen or sheep or wine or strong drink, whatever your appetite craves. And you shall eat there before the Lord your God and rejoice, you and your household." Deut 14:26

how does a person total a tee?...  ???

ok...  :P .. just kidding... . i know what the term means....  ;).
but i have always wondered how the practice of abstaining from alcoholic beverages
ever got a name like "teetotalling"  in the first place.... . where did it come from?...  ???

and for the record... i;m a teetotaler out of necessity.... it could be a dangerous if not lethal combination
with some of the medications i;m on...  :-\ ..... but i could picture myself in a temperance union if they were still around... ;)

I can imagine.  You are a very smart person.

I was a teetotaller for 25 years, out of necessity.  I was an alcoholic by age 20, and when I was converted, I needed to abstain. Now I can have one or two.  My view is that of Robert Stein from 1970's in Christianity Today. It is not a sin to drink, but wise for Christians in this alcohol driven society to be very very very careful, especially not to cause a brother or sister to take our example as license and therefore bring ruination on their life by returning to their prior state of unbridled drunkenness.

One.

From WIKI
One anecdote attributes the origin of the word to a meeting of the Preston Temperance Society in 1833. This society was founded by Joseph Livesey, who was to become a leader of the temperance movement and the author of The Pledge: "We agree to abstain from all liquors of an intoxicating quality whether ale, porter, wine or ardent spirits, except as medicine." The story attributes the word to Dicky Turner, a member of the society, who in a speech said "I’ll be reet down out-and-out t-t-total for ever and ever".[2]
A variation on the above account is found on the pages of The Charleston Observer: Teetotalers.--The origin of this convenient word, (as convenient almost, although not so general in its application as loafer,) is, we imagine, known but to few who use it. It originated, as we learn from the Landmark, with a man named Turner, a member of the Preston Temperance Society, who, having an impediment of speech, in addressing a meeting remarked, that partial abstinence from intoxicating liquors would not do; they must insist upon tee-tee-(stammering) tee total abstinence. Hence total abstainers have been called teetotalers.[3]
An alternative explanation is that teetotal is simply a duplication of the first 'T' in total (T-total). It is said that as early as 1827 in some Temperance Societies signing a 'T' after one's name signified one's pledge for total abstinence.[4] In England in the 1830s, when the word first entered the lexicon, it was also used in other contexts as an emphasized form of total; a comparable American English locution would be "total with a capital T" (an instance of the "[word] with a capital [word-initial letter]" snowclone). In this context, the word is still used, predominantly in the southern United States.[citation needed]
A common misspelling is "tea totaler", implying that the "person prefers to drink tea instead of alcoholic beverages".

I was meeting with a brother attorney and fishing buddy the other day. He excused himself and returned with a quart fruit jar which was a present from one of his clients. it contained peach moonshine. It was impressive to say the least. Remember, I am in TN.

Every time I visit my family there, always pick up a jug of it.

I am a teetotaler because that is the heritage I was brought up with.  Going back 5 generations before me, none of my ancestors have had anything to do with alcoholic drinks.

I will be the 6th generation and my children who are out on their own these last few years, are the 7th generation (that we can verify) to live according to this heritage.

I'm not looking for a teetotaler merit badge, or promoting myself as being better than others, this is just part of my place in the earth and a distinctive of the the people I descend from.

You didn't ask for Bible verses on this topic, and though I have them, I just am giving you my view on teetotalling.

You can give them, but the Scriptures are loaded with verses to show that alcohol is a sign of blessings from God himself, Jesus drank it and I like to drink it along with beer and bourbon. If you chose to abstain, wonderful. My hat off to you.
My problem with certain circles is that they call it sin and condem those who chose to enjoy God's good gift to us.

I'm a teetotaler because it is also the heritage which my mother and her family passed on to me....and, like you, I passed it to my children by example.
I'm a teetotaler because my father was a drunk and I saw first hand the blessings that brought my family.

The straw man argument that drinking alcohol is sinful doesn't fly with me....the church I Pastor contains many Christians who drink alcohol with no condemnation from the church's leadership or philosophy.
I don't  know of anyone personally who could say that their lives have been made better by alcohol consumption...I know many lives ruined by alcohol abuse.

It seems to me that SOME of the live and let live Freebirds, yet again, cop the same attitude as the Xers they abhor....just over the opposite position.
