Trump and Tariffs

He is crazy like a fox. China jumped their skis too early. Now they are stuck out there like an island...

I thought it was just Trump saber-rattling, but he went through with it. Whether the tariffs work or not remains to be determined….
only an idiot would rattle a sabre he is not prepared to use... . or didn;t know how to use.... .. trump has proven many times he doesn;t bluff or make empty threats.....

It’s kind of what he just did though. I actually think it’s by design. In a legal sense, the prosecutor is asking for the most severe punishment imaginable, while the defense is asking for the most lenient possible, with both sides realistically planning on meeting in the middle somewhere. I think this is his business mentality as well—real estate or whatever.

I think it was done by design. Like I’ve said many times, I watch Trump’s actions and ignore his words. Call it the “art of the deal,” or saber-rattling, or making chess moves or bluffing…whatever you call it, I think it’s done with an end goal in mind.

It is uncanny all the "coincidences" that happen to follow Donald Trump. Its almost like some unknown force or hand is planning things out from the impossibility of making a comeback at 78 years of age after the defeat four years ago to the turning of the head at the split second that spared his life in an assassination attempt, to just about every time it seems "the Donald" is down for the count he comes back stronger than ever. Who could have ever forseen the stock market coming back like it did? Just pondering. Does anything happen by chance?

I doubt you’ll find anyone on this forum who believes “anything happens by chance.” Christians, whether Calvinists or not, usually tend to believe in God’s providence. They just usually tend to forget this fact when the president is from the opposing party that they didn’t vote for.

I agree with you 100% though anyone who is being honest must see how unusual Donald Trump is. Whether one agrees with him or not very few men could have taken the beating with lawfare and everything else he has faced without being crushed. I doubt he is a true Christian but he has more fortitude than the average bear. I pray for him just as I prayed for President Biden that God would change the hearts of our leaders and bring about a change in the direction we are going as a nation. God can use even unsaved men to accomplish His goals. If anyone says anything good about President Trump they are called a man worshipper or exalting his as a god.

I don’t like to speculate on whether someone is a genuine Christian or not. If Trump says he’s a Christian, I’ll accept that at face value. He might not have spent his life showing the fruits of Christianity, but that’s between him and God. I’ve seen too many polished “Christians” who end up doing horrible deeds to really question the soul status of others. The only time I say someone is definitely not a Christian is when they have a different religion or just claim some type of atheism. By the way, we should prepare for the day when we have a president who is from a different religion or is non-religious, because that day is soon arriving. I’d be willing to bet it will happen within twenty years, maybe less.

I didn't say he definitely is going to hell, simply I have my doubts as to whether he is truly converted. The same with Jack Hyles or any other jackleg preachers who showed no fruits of the Spirit. I believe he is a very good President and don't apologize for that opinion.

I say a hearty amen to this. While no one is perfect, there is certainly something about a believer that can only come from the Holy Spirit... even if the believer seems worldly. We are not God; we don't see the heart. If someone claims to be a believer, we do well to give the benefit of the doubt however we are to test the spirits whether they be of God.

One thing I see constantly that irks me is the tendency of many believers mistaking a conservative or agreeable political viewpoint for a fruit of the Spirit. "Oh [insert name] must be a believer because of his/her views." It works both ways. "How can someone be a believer and hold that political position?

In Al Mohler's recent coverage of Trump's tariff strategy he likened it to tossing a bag of marbles on a table and trying to predict where they'll end up. I think he's right, but I hope Trump is crazy like a fox, because I am too close to retirement for a collosal collapse and recovery plan.

how did a thread on trump and tarrifs turn into a referendum on whether trump is saved or not?........ ........ that must truly be a sign of the times.... and a change in the prevailing winds... .. .. back in the day heated forum threads always devolved into arguments about calvinism... whether they had anything to do with calvinism or not....... . but this is a new development... ....it;s amazing....

I hear that. I just looked at our investments and they lost almost $30K last quarter. Most of that during the last month.

I realize Trump is not taking any crap from the rest of the world, especially China, and I support that, but it hurts and could backfire spectacularly ushering in an administration that will do more damage.

The pendulum swings from one extreme to the other. Always has, always will.

As I’ve said, I listen to both sides. At this point I believe logically what Trump is doing makes sense. It’s a huge gamble and if it lands in his favor it will benefit us.

On the other hand, it feels as if he expects us to pay the “short term” consequences with him not feeling the consequences. And this I absolutely do not like.

A leader that doesn’t pay the price you’re paying is not much of a leader.

It doesn’t feel like it, he’s said such. All I can do is trust that he and his economic team are very confident in the future results. I do, however, wonder what his definition of “short term” is. 🤔

Trump will pay a huge political price and he knows it. He has delivered on many campaign promises but his ultimate success begins and ends with the economy which is why he is and will compromise on the tariffs.
