I think your memory may be faulty. The COVID vaccine was initially touted as protection against the coronavirus. It was only later, when it was evident that people who had had the initial vaccination and a booster were still getting sick, that it was said to mitigate the effects of the virus.No one reputable ever claimed that getting the vaccine prevented a person from getting COVID. What was said is that by getting the vaccine, it could lessen the effects of the virus.
