The Jericho Plan

If a student was serious about attending HAC it was a great deal.  If a student was going because mom and dad or their pastor "pushed" them that direction, not so good of a deal.

The thing that sticks out to me is how pastors/parents pushed the "go to Christian college for one year" hoping that friendships or interests or a burden would develop to keep them there. Quite a few would put in their time and then leave. It's hard to change that line of thinking after hearing that for so many years.

Not always a bad thing to suggest.  I came for one.  Stayed for four.  Have been in ministry almost 20.

It can work out well for some. I used to be solidly in favor of this idea, but have been less for it of late.  It works out well when a student is seriously seeking God's will and God speaks to them.  However, so many so-called "Christian" colleges are desperate for $$$, so they push and manipulate students to stay past the one year, talking about "running home to momma" and the egregious sin of being "a quitter".  I'm so fed up the with "never quit" mantra that I'd like to hear a message sometime exalting quitting. One point could be about salvation - we must "quit" trusting ourselves and our works.  I'm sure that there are other points.

I absolutely agree with you.  I was in a position where I did not want to attend because of rebellion against God.  During that first year, events took place in my life that caused me to open up to God's plan for me instead of my plan for me.  I alsi was very well aware of the manipulation tactics in play and had absolutely no regard for any of them.  I stayed, graduated, went into ministry and stayed in ministry despite the methods of manipulation,  not because of them.

When people go into Bible college or ministry to fulfill another person's expectations, disaster follows.

I wonder if someone going to college majoring in Political Science hears from their professor, "Some of you deadbeats won't be back next year because you can't handle hearing about current events!"?

No, but they did tell us that most of us would quit after our freshman year...at the secular university I went to.

So it's not just IFB colleges?  Who would have thought.  :)
