The fact that the KJV does not capitalize Spirit in places where Spirit is demanded... indicates that it is not perfect and Bibleprotector has established a capricious and deceptive ser of tests.

BTW: where is the chapter and verse for capitalizing the only true God? Does a capital for "God" matter? It does. Unfortunately,  the Spirit does not garner the same respect.

I'm not trying to be hostile here. This is only one of many examples of how born-again, Godly, sincere saints fight over something that is not taught in Scripture. The Bible does not command you to capitalize "spirit." Nowhere does the Bible teach that if you do not capitalize "spirit" you are downgrading the Holy Spirit.

Basing doctrine on accusations is a bad idea--I need the book, chapter, and verse that condemns not capitalizing "spirit." I'm a fundamentalist, and I cannot be convinced of a doctrine that is based on accusations only. I need the book, chapter, and verse.

The bible does not command one true version either. But since the KJV's oopsies have been narrowed down to a mere 8000, I guess that's about as perfect as we are going to get.

It's just a translation, for crying out loud.  Even if a translation says "spirit" when it probably should say "Spirit" (or vice versa), I think I'm capable of divining what the word means in the context.  After all, I have the Spirit to help me. 

I don't understand why people want to regard any translation as unassailable.  They all have flaws.  ALL of them.  The very nature of the English language makes them flawed.

I have an edition of the KJV printed before 1900 that has a question mark at the end of Jeremiah 32:5.  It is an edition of the KJV printed by the American Bible Society in 1853.

The ABS edition that I have is a copy of the KJV edition made by the American Bible Society in 1852/1853.  Its title page has New York:  American Bible Society, 1853.

    T. H. Darlow and H. F. Moule noted:  “It is not generally known that in the middle of the nineteenth century the American Bible Society carried out a careful revision of the current text of the ‘Authorised’ Version” (Historical Catalogue of the Printed Editions of Holy Scripture, p. 362).  Donald Brake wrote:  “Between 1847 and 1851 the American Bible Society attempted a revision under the leadership of American scholar Edward Robinson” (Visual History of the KJB, p. 216).  Paul Gutjahr observed:  “The Society had begun the Standard Bible project as a means to clean up the typographical errors and inconsistencies of its versions” (American Bible, p. 90).  T. S. Bell asserted:  “During the space of upwards of six years, the society printed and circulated that Bible as a vast improvement upon their preceding editions” (British Millennial Harbinger, Vol. XI, p. 482).  This carefully prepared 1852 edition of the KJV deserves some serious consideration along with the revised editions printed in England.  Jacob I. Mombert described it as “a new edition in which the numerous variations in the text, punctuation, etc. of the editions collated were reduced to one uniform standard” (Hand-book of the English Versions, p. 366).  In 1857, Eleazar Lord maintained that the ones responsible for this ABS edition “have, under the guidance of appropriate rules, corrected the typographical and other variations from the earliest standard edition, and reproduced what, properly understood, is ‘the Authorized Version’” (Plenary Inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, p. 238).  John M’Clintock and James Strong wrote that this 1852 edition “was received with general approval.  For six years it remained the standard of the Society, and during that time not a whisper of disapprobation was heard” (Cyclopaedia of Biblical, Theological, and Ecclesiastical Literature, Vol. 1, p. 564). 

This 1853 ABS edition is evidently not even the first KJV edition with a question mark at the end of Jeremiah 32:5 and thus was not the one which first introduced it.  I checked an American Bible Society edition that I have that was printed in 1843, and it also has a question mark at the end of Jeremiah 32:5.  I have not yet checked it in earlier ABS editions and in other 1800's KJV editions.

I checked an earlier ABS edition that was printed for the American Bible Society in 1819, and it has a question mark at the end of Jeremiah 32:5.  The text of that ABS edition of the KJV is available online at books.google.com

This is a perfect example of why all translations must be tried by the golden pipes of the original languages.
Why were those Anglican KJV translators so much wiser than Mr. Kinney?

Oh, I know, they knew Greek and Hebrew like any Bible student should.
