I remember hearing this guy sing.....& I still miss Ray & his music.

Too operatic (is that a word?) for me.  I remember when he came to my home church for a big day.  He was singing and the ushers allowed a couple of people to slip into the auditorium.  Ray stopped singing and began to lecture the crowd on how much he put into his music and the disrespect of people walking around while he sang.  Needless to say, it was his last time at the church.  :)
Guess he must have been hanging around JH or BG.

The first time I picked him up at the airport it was a Sat night I gave him 2 options. 1. Out to a restaurant & then drop him off at his motel. 2. My soul winning group was have a Christmas get-together & dinner. He could stop in there with me & meet some of the folks & share a pot-luck dinner & sing some Christmas carols with us.

He chose #2. Most of them did not know of his life story or his talent but when I asked him to lead in carols ears came alive. It ended up being a mini Ray H concert. I found him very down to earth as long as he had a cup of coffee in his hand.

Who was the guy at HAC that use to sing chapel specials.  It was almost like he was trying to imitate Ray Hart.  He would hold his NT while he sang.  I believe his favorite song to sing may have been "I'm Justified".

I'm thinking of Kurt Luddington?

The name doesn't ring a bell.  I will have to look back at some old Cabers.

Who remembers Mr. Stark, he was a janitor at HBGS?

Webster Stark.  My favorite HBGS staffer.

He came on after he retired, and did our janitorial work.

He was great.  He always taught me how to do whatever it was he was doing.

This is bad I know, but I had Mrs. Fielder in 3rd grade.  Well, that was a hard grade for me.  When she would make me mad I would go in the restroom and urinate all over the toilet paper.  That happened more than once.

Well he caught me once and told me to take better aim next time.  :D  I thought for sure he was going to turn me in.

I sure hope she didn't make you mad today. :o

My first memory of FBC is a very clear picture of my dad holding me in the vestibule as we looked in and watched workers press water out of the green carpet with big rollers.  It was the day after the fire and everything was wet and smokey.  I loved that old auditorium.

I think most people can remember the first time they walked into the FBCH auditorium.  It gave me the same feeling that I got when I walked into my first MLB stadium.

I don't remember the first time I walked or was carried into the auditorium.  ;)

If that had been Comiskey Park, for a night game, in 1980, your little 7 -yr. old heart might have felt nothing but fear.
This being accentuated by your Father's pre-trip warnings, and the fact that you smuggled a sandwich in your hoodie, might have made you really anxious.

Now back to the regularly scheduled program.

:P

One of my memories is of an usher turning me in because I was reading the Reader's Digest hidden in my Bible during Wednesday night services. :-)

One of my funniest memories was when Mr Wolber got up to sing one Sunday in his usual booming voice... "Ohhhh I never shall forget..."  and he forget the rest of the words. Mrs Colsten played the intro again and his booming voice bellowed... "Ohhhh.... I never shall forget..." and he forget the words again!!! Bro Hyles was about rolling on the floor. Mr Wolber said, "I forgot to bring my glasses up with me." One of the men in the choir handed his glasses to him... and he sang the song like nothing ever happened. Bro Hyles got up to preach with that smirk when you knew he was going to have a good time over Mr Wolbers misfortune... and he did!!!

Harriet Goodloe coming in late and JH singing "here she comes, Miss America . . ."

I was very young when we attended there, but I remember VBS when I was 4. Jack Hyles chased the devil around the platform and then up into the baptistry. When the devil fell into the water, steam started coming up. I also sing "O, Won't You Come to Our Bible School?" at our VBS every year.

Another picture from the old auditorium.
