HAMMOND | A federal judge agreed Tuesday to delay sentencing former Hammond megachurch Pastor Jack Schaap over the objection of his attorney, federal court records show.

U.S. District Judge Rudy Lozano granted a motion by federal prosecutors to delay sentencing for the government to determine victim restitution in the case and respond to Schaap's objections to sentencing recommendations.

Schaap, the former head pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hammond, pleaded guilty Sept. 26 to having sex with a 16-year-old church girl.

Defense attorney Paul Stracci objected to the delay in sentencing. He argued prosecutors have had enough time to calculate restitution, court records show.

Lozano reset the sentencing hearing for 1 p.m. March 12 in federal court in Hammond.

He recently used the pulpit to pressure parents to hand over their Teens to him, specifically the most vulnerable kids with "issues" . He may have just began his crime spree

Going to prison is the punishment for any crime. Violent rape, rape by threat, assaults, theft, murder, threats, extortion are all crimes in itself that occur behind the wall. Let's not wish rape on anyone in prison. It is not part of the punishment set by the judicial system. It is a violent crime - nothing more, nothing less.

The Department of CORRECTIONS, isn't punishment.  Fines are punishment.  Imprisonment is correction.
Child predators can't be corrected...
Prison rape is a crime, that Sodomites feel is justified, because 'At least I didn't rape a child, like chester here did.'  It's some sick form of Phariseeism.

OK, punishment and correction. I just cringe to hear (and I have heard the call for many) that they hope Schaap "drops the soap";  is "on his knees but not praying"; that he has "Bubba for a cellie" etc. I am no Schaap fan at all, but wishing that on anyone is wrong on so many levels.

Groupie - I agree with you.

Oba 1:12  But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

Pro 24:17  Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

Eze 25:6  For thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast clapped thine hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced in heart with all thy despite against the land of Israel; Behold, therefore I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and will deliver thee for a spoil to the heathen; and I will cut thee off from the people, and I will cause thee to perish out of the countries: I will destroy thee; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.

Don't forget that the Christian is just as much a child of God as Israel.  Guilty.  Punished.  Loved.  Redeemed.  A remnant remains.  Many Christians have responded to this case with pride in the gall of bitterness, which is opposite of the command to restore in the spirit of meekness.  When God breaks a non-responsive Christian, it is not so that other Christians can scorn, but that the individual will repent and worship God.  The breaking is for God's good, for God's glory - not the glory of self-righteous Christians hoping to find some self-vindication and see suffering as Edom did to Isreal.  God makes clear His response to this scorning of His broken children.

None of them have actually been in prison, or seen the 'killer queens' at work, or they would shut the #3|| up about it!  Those prison Sodomites are the most God-hating perverts on the planet, having their consciences seared with a hot iron.  I wish them to be destroyed, not to get a new victim.

Well, they don't believe that God really means it when he says Vengenace is mine.  They think we need Bubba to help him.

I read an article that stated nationally the average sentence for 1st degree murder was 20-30 years. Average for 2nd degree was 10 -20 years. Average for rape was 10 - 15 years with some getting as little as 2-3 yrs.

If this data is correct, 10 years seems like a little extream. Does anyone know how much the judge is allowed to reduce the 10 yr sentance if he chooses to?

Sword, I think someone said the minimum sentence was 10 years because the girl was a minor.

And ten years is not too much for statutory rape...which is what it is if she was a minor.  I find it incredible how so many want to look past what this "man of god" did...he did, he knew what he was doing, he should pay the full price...and quite frankly if he is really repentant he will willfully do his full sentence and not try to get out of it!

Still hoping for Bubba.  And that is being kind IMVVVVVHO.
