Very sad. Kind of makes you wonder ....

Yeah it does I wonder how a professing Christian could have so little compassion as you seem to have ?

I just wonder what pushed this man, so close in age to myself, from a fine Christian home .... I have moments of depressions .... could I do such a thing to my friends, family, and dear mother ...

It is very sad. Sorry you think me to be lacking compassion.

Like RW's son, this young man had a long history of mental health issues. This was not his first attempt at suicide. Very sorry for the family.

Over the years, I've had a few family and friends who have committed suicide...and one who could have simply stood up to live.  That made me wonder, too.  But I had compassion for them, each and every one.  I understand where you are coming from, Timothy.

True that, Mr. Admin, FSSL.

Sad to see. I just could not imagine that as a parent. You don't even want to think about it in one sense but of course your heart goes out to this family.

There is something that medicine, counseling and churches are missing when it comes to depression.

My former IBFx preacher said to those that was depressed, they did not need any medicine. Just turn off the soap operas and stop gossiping, etc.  Sad the damage he had done to many of his church members in so many way. This is just one example.

What is that?

Wish I knew.

Me too.

I am going to take a stab at this that might offend some.  No offense intended.  I have struggled through depression myself.  I have counseled many suicidal people.  There are certain thought patterns and phrases that are VERY common.  I understand chemical imbalance is an issue.  I understand that some brains do not process thought well (mental handicap or brain injuries).  However there is so much commonality that I question another source.  Personally, in my own opinion, I believe that many who struggle with suicidal thought patterns are suffering from demonic oppression.  NOT possession, oppression.  It may be something that a Christian counselor should consider when other typical solutions seem to have no effect (or maybe approached from the beginning of counseling).

Somethings are beyond anyone's control. One of the best man I every known committed suicide. He had a chemical imbalance that no drug could take away. We need to realize that many mental issues are actually physical abnormalities that can't be fixed. Only managed. Then there times we have no solutions.

Maybe or maybe not. Demon oppression is easily handled according to the Scriptures.  Resist and the demon will flee. Many resist and resist and resist and resist and resist and it never goes away. Some people just have a physical issue that finds no healing.

I have spoken with professionals, my pastor .... they all have solutions, answers, scripture, and the sort ... and yet, just as you say, you resist, resist, read Bible read Bible, pray, pray ... and take medication .... and yet, inside something never leaves.

Lucky for me, my family keeps me pressing on. That, and a fear of God perhaps.

Um.  Resisting doesn't work - Resting in Christ does.  If one is suffering from real demonic oppression and he is just told to "not give in" or "resist the urge" he is destined for destruction.  This is not easily handled and most Christians really have no understanding of the issue.

Really? I think all three have helped countless people. What are your thoughts behind this statement?

Agreed.  Some people do have a chemical imbalance or mental handicap or brain injury that causes the mind to not function in certain ways.  Some medicines also cause suicidal tendencies.

Sorry I didn't include the words "in Christ"...... ???  :o

How difficult it is it to resist in Christ? If you believe the Scriptures, then you know what they say will happen. Obviously there is more than one cause. Some try to narrow it down to some special "action" we can take with just the "right counseling" or just the "right understanding. I'm saying. There isn't always hope for everyone. I'm not saying that as a means to justify anone's actions. Its just the truth.
