I agree. Carter, like all of us, was a fallible man capable of making erroneous political and religious decisions. He was a sinner. But aside from a couple of his Scriptural (mis)interpretations, I’d welcome you to do a side-by-side life’s comparison with him and any other president in history and let me know your thoughts on whom exemplified Christ the most.

You missed the part, Carter stayed in the democrat party that still pushed and supported abortions. I believe the former governor of Va said if a baby survived it would be put to the side and then a decision be made to live or die as the state was talking about passing the repeal act.

a partial birth abortion - which is what democrats still support to this day but refer to by different "euphoric" names - is nothing less than killing a baby as it exits the womb.... ... labor is induced by either mechanical or chemical stimulation and then a metal instrument is used to puncture the top of the babys head and scramble it;s brains as the head protrudes... ..... at that point labor continues and what is finally delivered is a dead baby...
so the fact checkers of cbs and those who latch onto their every word as if it was gospel need to fact check themselves.... ..the labelling of such a procedure as being a "coming out of the womb" abortion is entirely correct.. ..
however... what i described above is what happens when the abortionist procedure goes as planned... but sometimes it doesn;t... and the baby continues to live even after being expelled from the womb with a hole in it;s head.. .. . in those cases it is placed in a basin and covered with a wet towel... then left there until it stops breathing and it;s heart stops beating....... what should that kind of thing be called if not an "after birth abortion"?..... i call it by what it really is.... cold blooded murder.. .

Regardless of what any political party believes (whether it be the Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Communists, or the Barney the Dinosaur party), the original contention by some forum members was that Carter supported abortion. That’s unequivocally either a lie or a simple mistake based on misinformation. I’ve posted links to the Hyde Amendment, which Carter signed into law as proof. I’ve also posted a video of him as an elderly man still declaring he hadn’t adopted the pro-abortion stance. If we’re talking about gay marriage, that’s a different situation, but it’s disingenuous for people to say he was pro-abortion.

he stood alongside those who openly supported all kinds of abortion without restrictions.... and helped them fight against those who would either limit it or ban it outright... so in the end it doesn;t really matter what he claimed to believe... . .. a position does not have to be adopted as a core belief to still be supported... and a person supporting those who do hold that position as a core belief will be considered no different than they are - regardless of what they might actually believe or "feel" inside....... it goes towards being known by the company we keep... as well as which side of the battle lines we stand on.... ...
over the years many conservative leaning democrats have left the democrat party after taking a good look at things and coming to grips with what it was they have been a part of.... . but carter never did that.... .in fact.. as you pointed out with regards to him changing his beliefs on gay marriage he actually went deeper into liberal ideology.... .. .
There’s a lot of validity in what you said, and I’m not saying you’re incorrect. However, when people made blanket statements like, “Jimmy Carter supported gay marriage and abortion,” I don’t think they meant he supported abortion by proxy or by extension of other politicians in a political party decades after he last held public office. I think they meant he literally supported it on a personal level. I’m also betting they were unfamiliar with the Hyde Amendment and with more recent video evidence of him saying he’s never been comfortable supporting abortion.
Regarding whether or not he should have attempted to switch political parties over the abortion issue is a secondary question. Maybe he should have switched, or maybe he felt that the Democrats needed people in their ranks who did not completely abandon the pro-life counterpoint. Of course, most people in life are not single-issue voters. Maybe on that issue he felt uncomfortable, but on a host of other issues he felt comfortability with the party. I don’t know and will likely never know unless some video interviews come out that were meant to be posthumous publications, so I’d just be sitting here speculating.

Which is a textbook case of the word but nullifying everything that comes before it.

We had this discussion a few months back when Trump was criticizing states like Florida and Arizona for passing more restrictive abortion laws. No one believes he's a pro-life stalwart.
Carter, to his credit, stood firm on the Hyde Amendment and never repudiated it. But his 1976 campaign promised to do nothing about Roe. In the he last three elections, Carter endorsed Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris, all of whom are cheerleaders for federally-funded abortion on demand. His actions spoke louder than his personal convictions.
