The issue regarding women's dress standards for fire drills caught the attention of this blogger, and they decided to contact Pensacola Christian College directly to confirm their policy:

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2013/05/17/this-school-has-the-worst-fire-safety-policy-youve-ever-seen/?utm_content=bufferd81e0&utm_source=buffer&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Buffer

"The other day, I posted a story about a former Pensacola Christian College student who had awful recollections of the school’s fire drill policy:

Of course PCC isn’t known for really caring much about fire safety anyway. For years the rule has remained on the books that all female students must be in “proper” attire before they leave their rooms for a fire drill. If you happen to be sleeping in pajama pants, you must take the time to put on a skirt before you try to escape the flames. If you should perish then at least you’ll know you died for the cause of not tempting the fire fighters to lust after you.

It seemed pretty unbelievable, so I sent an email to PCC asking them what their actual policy was in the case of a fire. Did they really require proper attire?

This was the response I got back:

Yes, we ask the girls if they can to grab knee length shorts or a skirt to quickly change in to. Once students exit the building they have to stand so far away from the building.

Seriously…? I had to write back.

But come on, in the case of an emergency, isn’t the first priority to get out of the building? When I was in college, if you were in the shower when a fire alarm went off, you would theoretically just have to go outside in your towel!
So maybe that policy is the hope, but if there’s a real fire, none of that really matters, right?

I got another response from the college:

Yes, the priority would be to get out of the building as quick as possible. The closets are right by the door on their way out of each room so it would be possible to be modest on their way out. A robe would even be fine."

*Sigh*

So it’s true. In the case of a fire at Pensacola Christian College, the first priority is to dress appropriately. The second priority is getting out of the building as quickly as possible. No matter how they phrase it, that’s their mindset.

Or maybe getting out is the third priority. I was too afraid to ask when students were supposed to pray.

After my last post, some commenters referred to a 2002 fire at a girls’ school in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Because they were not wearing proper religious garb, the girls were instructed to head back into a burning building. 15 girls died in the fire; who knows how many lives could have been saved if safety, not modesty, was the first priority.

I understand why PCC wants students to adhere to strict faith-based rules, but not when it could come at the expense of their own lives."

There is a PCC related board on facebook. Two former students confirmed PCC's policy in the following posts:

"... when i was there, there WAS an actual fire on one of the floors and the RAs DID care how we were dressed and DID write up girls who had on pajama pants, even under robes."

"Um, hello, I WAS THERE....there was a fire....and girls were getting written up for having pajama pants on. do you think i'd make that up just for ***** and giggles?"

"And she's serious. Girls got written up for not being in proper attire. During an actual fire. Happened in my building. While I was there."

What value do women really have in these places?

Are they expected to die rather than be seen in immodest attire?

PCC, and other colleges with similar policies, are putting the lives of women at risk.

On SFL's facebook page another former Pensacola Christian College student responded:

"I accidentally wore sweatpants out during one of the fire drills, and was half-way down the nine flights of stairs before I realized it. I ended up getting demerits."

This policy is no less sick and twisted than Spamerson's teaching that women should never be examined by a male doctor (especially OB/GYN), lest they be immodest and cause lust.

So it is better for a woman to die apparently...

>:(

Maybe they should just adopt Sharia law and get it over with.

Yet one more bit of reinforcement for the unofficial Ransom Family Motto:

I will never, ever, ever send one of my children to attend Pensacola Christian College.

If I had Latin skills, I would have translated that. It's that important.

Avoiding PCC is a no brainer for you and me, but sadly PCC does successfully recruit mainstream Christians. A family from my current church got sucked in - probably tempted by the happy Stepford Wives style marketing info, LOW TUITION, conservative values, etc. Apparently they homeschooled with ABeka products too, and with 5 kids queued up for college they were determined to go as cheaply as possible. Our church leadership tried to tell them PCC was not a good place for them (this family uses MV Bibles, goes to CCM concerts, girls wear pants, etc.), but they were convinced. Now their freshman child is engaged, and they are all happy (that happened way too fast IMHO).  But the student lives very differently at home vs at school.

But when it comes down to it: Master's College, Azusa Pacific, and other accredited Christian colleges out in my area are a lot more pricey than Pensacola "We have a water slide!" Christian College.  In hard times, that can be a very effective recruitment tool.

I think more of my dog than to send him to PCC.  What a waste of time and money for a piece of paper that is absolutely worthless.  I know a few PCC grads and they are dumber than a fence post.  IMVVVHO

no need to be rude

From someone who gave up on the old FFF before it crashed, let me state my opinion that one of the things that I found redundant and boring was the constant harping on IFB schools.  If your kids aren't going to school there, WHO CARES what the schools are teaching...who the teachers are...what the kids wear....what the cafeteria serves.  If you aren't footing the bill for someone's tuition at one of those schools, why should you or ANYONE care what they do/say/think/print/believe?

Philippians 2:14-16

King James Version (KJV)

14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

Do you realize how small you look when you come on here and bash these schools. Who cares what they do?? I am sure they have rules that do not make sense, but I am sure you do as well in your own life. It doesn't take much to come on this site behind a computer screen and attack another. I do not believe this is how a Christian should act, because anyone can find fault and tear down.

I will not stay silent just to make you happy. If IFBx schools are doing horrible things, it needs to be discussed. Perhaps you will find it less boring if you just skip threads that offend you.

Pensacola Christian College values the lives of these women so little that they require them to change clothes before fleeing a fire, and all you two think is we should not criticize.

Ridiculous

I will not stay silent just to make you happy.

This has nothing to do with my personal happiness. Trust me, I don't lose sleep over this,  I just find it somewhat comical that you have nothing better to do.

If IFBx schools are doing horrible things, it needs to be discussed.

If they are doing something illegal then you should probally call the Escambia County Sherrifs Office. Once again I go back to the smallness of your actions. As if what you are doing is going to have an impact.

Perhaps you will find it less boring if you just skip threads that offend you.

Again this does not upset or offend me. It is comical. I am glad though that you have my well being in mind though. NEWSFLASH! I didn't know if you were aware that there is a PCC forum. If you are going slander you might as well do it in the appropriate place.

Pensacola Christian College values the lives of these women so little that they require them to change clothes before fleeing a fire, and all you two think is we should not criticize.

Well if they really devalue these poor young ladies lives then I think you really have stumbled upon something here. I think we need to grab the local news so that the sensationalizing can begin promptly. I mean what father would be so stupid to send his little girl there. And to think, you are responsible for the awareness on this issue. Thankyou for choosing your precious limited time to help open our eyes to the vicious nature of this school. (sarcasm)

Don't you think its good that other people find out what's going on so they can ask question BEFORE considering such a school?

Maybe you can consider the opposing argument. Why would the school care what people are saying about it? Why would they be concerned if "what they do" gets out? If what "they do" is just fine, then there shouldn't be an issue with everyone knowing about it. If the school is potentially going to accept "anyone" as a studied, then everyone should know about it practices.

Exactly right! Because if there's anything Christian's aren't, it's their brother's keeper. Right?

It find it comical that you have nothing better to do than bash what you consider a "basher".... Pot meet kettle.

Surely you can be intellectually honest and realize that you're being a hypocrite in saying such things. Obviously you believe you're the only qualified to object to anything someone says.

Dear Rev. Luther:

Do you realize how small you look when you come out in public and bash the Catholic Church? Who cares what they do? I am sure they have rules that do not make sense, but I am sure you do as well in your own life. It doesn't take much to nail a list of your beefs to the church door and attack another. I do not believe this is how a Christian should act, because anyone can find fault and tear down.

Yours in Christ,
Archbishop Albrecht

Please do not compare the 2. I can not believe you actually just did that.

If the comparison can't stand, then explain why. Don't expect me to be persuaded just because you take umbrage.

A doctrinal issue and personal issue are very different. If you can't understand that then you need to be hit in the head with a tack hammer  :)

Except in PCC's case, the personal issue is a doctrinal issue.
