Sure, why not?  I mean, the FFF mantra is "We're FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeee", and demands that culture determine such matters of morality,  moral relativism being their compass.

Cigarettes are great.

AC/DC for our worship music.

Gambling RULES!

Liquor up, Luther did!!

Eat, drink, be merry, for tomorrow we die!!!

I like you Alayman but talk,about strawman.....sheesh!

  • I've never seen anyone here advocate for cigarettes. Perhaps someone has once since I haven't beenon here ever day but it's hardly a mantra.

    • "AC/DC for Our worship music" is only the mantra for those who want to lie about something a church did. They did NOT play this song as "worship" but as a setup for a sermon point. You can be better than that.
    • There are rules to gambling but I don't know what they are....except for some of the Wall Street gambling. :)
    • Luther did indeed drink beer. Not sure about liquor. It's not a sin to do so of course.

    • Ecc 8:15 So I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them under the sun. :)

Re 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
Re 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

What do you think of tankinis or even the standard one-piece suits? Is it really all about skin exposure?

Btw, I don't live in a beach town like Vancouver so beachwear is not really an issue for me. I get an eyeful just seeing women in "yoga" pants - that's enough for me.

Also I've never seen any one being baptized in a bikini - there was a church that had a baptismal service at Kitsilano Beach in Vancouver on Easter Sunday and none of the women were wearing bikinis and most of them weren't even wearing swimsuits - this is one of the hipper "free" churches in Vancouver. I grew up in fairly conservative churches and swimwear wasn't much of an issue even in the 1980's. Even in the mid-sixties it wasn't an issue in the most conservative Baptist denomination of the time in British Columbia. However back in those days there wasn't guys with camera phones - things like that have caused some women to be more careful either of what they wear or where or when they go to a beach - most woman would like to be seen but not lusted after - no woman ever expects a man to suddenly turn into Mr. Magoo at the beach. Women now have more options of what to wear - although bikinis are the most common - I've seen some wearing loose fitting shorts. There really isn't one type of swimwear that is more fashionable than another. However the girls in the bikinis will naturally be the most popular if they are good looking. Even if a girl wearing loose fitting shorts or other type of swimsuit is better looking than all the girls wearing bikinis - guys will see the girls in bikinis as more available. That's just how guys think. Only a decent Christian guy would be attracted to those other girls. When guys go to the beach they expect the most attractive girls to be wearing bikinis - any one who doesn't is a disappointment and will be ignored. On the internet there is no demand for pictures of young women with pretty faces or even nice legs who are wearing anything other than a bikini.

I don't think Solomon meant that to be the sum total of our life - that's the Epicurean philosophy - life without the knowledge of God. In fact he says at the end Fear God and keep his commandments for "this" is the whole duty of man.

I'm sure your sheeple shout "hayyymeeennnnn" when you rip verses out of the bible and twist them to make them applicable to your pet "sins", but that ain't going to work here.

And now, back to our original programming....

When she sits around the house, she sits AROUND the house!

When she wears high heels, she strikes oil.

She has her own zip code.

When she walks, it registers on the Richter scale.

When she goes to the beach, Greenpeace tries to tow her back into the ocean.

I ran out of gas trying to drive around her.

She's on both sides of her family.

God's commandments require modesty in dress.  God's commandments forbid immodesty in dress.  The fact that some "christians" advocate wearing something akin to a few band-aids and a bit of dental floss in public show the scant regard given to God's commandments these days.  We profess to "love Jesus," but want nothing to do with doing what he commands.  Bro. Tom is right-- such worldlings are ripe to be "spewed-out" in detestation.

To allow American "culture" to determine the acceptability of attire for Christians is silly.  The same "culture" praises sexual promiscuity, places great value on lust, justifies the murder of children conceived as the result of sexual sin, and is hell-bent on glorifying the creature rather than the Creator.  It is a mark of our apostacy that we cling to the world's standards,  not only in dress, but in standards of worship, entertainment, education, family roles, etc. We are commanded to "come out and be seperate," but we have become so enslaved to our pagan culture that we treat those with a remnant of conviction in this area as over-zealous, legalistic kooks.

At the root is a "Christianity" that places will-worship in the place that rightly belongs to God.  Any token nod of the head given to the requirement of modesty is quickly followed by an obfusication guised as an illuminated thought that 'God never specifies just what must be covered up'-- as though God is incapable of giving a clear directive.  A mind set firmly in a desire to obey, however, seeks not a line which may be approached as closely as possible without transgression, but rather seeks to steer clear and far from any hint of wantonness and laciviousness.

OK.  As a compromise to those of you with "conviction", I now present the "burkini":

Does a women wearing a bikini cause you to have in modest thoughts? If it does.... then who's fault is it? Your fault or the one wearing the bikini? Do you exercise control over your own mind or not?

My wife wears a bathing suit to the beach and I have never considered it "immodest". In fact, I consider her choice to be rather conservative. Now I am certain you will ask "conservative" by what standard? I would say by "God's standard". Most bible verses used to talk of "modest" dress.....reference a women's attempt to look "expensive". In like manner.....James spoke of this when he spoke of "gay" apparel. While I'm not for dressing like a "whore". Do you really consider a women in a bikini to be dressing like a "whore"?

Does a tight T-shirt and short pants on a man equally cause problems for a women? How about a trim fit...."muscular" appearance?

I have never personally known of a situation were a 'bikini" started an affair. Usually it doesn't take such to cause a man's mind to "stray". There have been a many adulterous women/man that found their "prey" at a local "Independent Fundamental Baptist Church". Paul even spoke of how "silly women" are easy lead astray. (not targeting women. Men are as well)

You don't think the letters to the churches in Revelation are applicable to us today? You don't think there is something extremely wrong with a Christianity that claims to love God and yet wants to see/be 'hot' women in water-proof lingerie? See, that must be one of the differences between you and I. I think that is directly lukewarm. It is attempting to have/hold/claim/celebrate the love of God in your life, and a life dedicated to Him and then combine it with a thought process/display/rationalization/celebration of lust. When you mix a life hot after God with a life cold to His precepts you get a lukewarm life...and that makes God vomit.

I don't mind genuine theological/practical disagreement, but to rationalize/encourage/discuss/justify 'hot' Christian women wearing bikinis on a beach, by either gender, makes God vomit.

You're welcome.

I love rock 'n' roll!  :D

But not necessarily as worship music. AC/DC is not for sure, it's secular as can be. But rock can be worship music if it's written with that in mind.

Some Finnish Lutheran churches have "metal mass"; traditional Lutheran liturgy set to heavy metal music. I might really like that! Since I do like liturgy, and Lutheran theology, and heavy metal. Or I might not; I could try it and find it doesn't feel worshipful. Guess I'll have to go to Finland to find out.  8)

I sure would, if it's warm enough.

"Sinful hussy" is probably more accurate though. I am not made of bronze, though my perfect tan might fool you on that.  :P

But we are all sinful.  :o
