After the Election

I promise I’m not looking to club you or trap you, and my question was sincere, what do you find appealing (assuming you meet some self-described notion of a conservative) about Cheney?
"Everybody's got to be aware that they're going to do it. We're in a much better place at the local level to help defend against those fraudulent claims, but people just to need to be aware. You're going to see Donald Trump continue to melt down," Cheney continued. "You see him completely lose it because his microphone doesn't work. Finally, nobody's talking much abut the fact that he said it was hard for him to hold up the microphone? Really? That's stressing you out? I think people just need to prepare themselves for what he's going to do, and know there are far more Americans that want our system to succeed than those who want us to fail."

Trump and his surrogates — including VP pick J.D. Vance — have long drawn criticism for their comments about the results of the 2020 election, with Vance even refusing to admit that Trump lost the contest (and even pointed to a peaceful transition of power) during his Oct. 1 debate against Harris' VP pick, Tim Walz.

I think Liz Cheney is willing to speak against a fellow Republican, just as Mike Pence did.

Iraqi Priest Prays for Trump’s Victory: Calls on God to Send a Strong Leader to Protect Persecuted Christians and Bring Peace to the Middle East

Meanwhile, Jo and subllibrm scream at the sky.

In a heartfelt prayer on the eve of the U.S. presidential election, an Iraqi priest publicly appealed for divine intervention, asking the Lord to bring a strong leader to the United States—one who would protect persecuted Christians across the globe, particularly in the Middle East.
The priest, whose community has faced severe hardship, believes that Donald Trump embodies this hope for strong leadership.

Not sure what the significance of the Cheney quote is , but willing to hear your explanation.

I watched the video. The YouTuber’s obvious slanted bias aside, the video amounted to saying “ anybody but Trump”. So if I am interpreting your answer to my question of what you like about Liz Cheney, it’s nothing about her platform, but rather that she is willing to stand up to Trump. Is that correct?

I’m not a big Trump fan. It’s not just that he has behaved in ways that are beneath the dignity of the office and what we should expect from adults, it’s also that I’m a conservative and he isn’t. He’s a big spending, social moderate/progressive. The 1992 version of Bill Clinton was more conservative than Trump 2024, and I wore all black to junior high to mourn the election of Clinton. So, while I don't have the enthusiasm I wish I had for a presidential candidate, I’m voting for him and here’s why:

1. At least he doesn’t hate me. As a small government, Christian, social conservative, I wish Trump saw the world the way I do. He doesn’t. But at least he doesn’t have disdain for people who see the world as I do. Kamala has personally weaponized the legal system against people like me because of what we believe and cheered when others did the same. I’d prefer to have an ally in the White House, but I’ll take the person who isn’t actively trying to harm me if that’s the best option available….

Which is why I chuckled when I read the story in local news that the governor of the Socialist Republic of Washington (State) has activated the National Guard to help quell potential rioting associated with the elections. If they erupt, they will likely be in the Socialist Dystopia of Seattle (remember CHOP zones?)

Of significance, many of Uncle Jay's prized gems are potentially on the chopping block today...
I remember CHOP very well. It’s things like that which amaze me when it comes to the talking points of those fence-straddlers and so-called moderates. Elections truly have consequences, and five dollars a dozen eggs, as important as the economy is it’s just the tip of the iceberg when I think about things like CHOP, or ignoring the rule of law and bailing them out when they burn down the cities.

i think you hit the nail on the head.... . it;s all TDS.... jo has a critical case of TDS which she obviously nurtures and enjoys.... and she admires liz cheney because cheney has a terminal case of TDS - all brought on because trump opposed her familys penchant for greasing their money machines with the blood of americans and innocent people around the world.... ....

there is movie that came out in 2010 called "buried" ... with ryan reynolds... ..it's very chilling... and even more so when you realize it;s 100% true .. . it tells what happened to just one of the hundreds of contract drivers for the military who worked for the cheneys company KBR..... and that were either killed or disappeared in iraq over the course of the iraq wars....... the cheneys outright abandoned most of them... then lied to the familiys of others to avoid paying compensation and back pay their loved ones had earned. ..... and it was all done with the blessing of george dubya who set it the whole war machine into motion.... ...i learned about many of these cases and incidents as they were happpening. .... and yet it;s just one part of the cheneys bloody legacy.....

I do think that many moderate conservatives loathe Trump's personality foibles (despite obvious policy strengths) to the point of ignoring the necessary pragmatism involved in the political selection process, but want to give Jo a chance to answer for herself, so will hold my thoughts until she fleshes out her beliefs a bit more.

I never once counted Trump as a conservative. He's very much a populist. His main appeal to me is that he doesn't tow a party line. There's lots to be desired in him but he's not a Democrat. I didn't vote for Republicans as much as I voted against Democrats. In fact, I can only think of three candidates I voted for; all of them running for state assembly in Olympia.
