Who Inherited Hyles' Estate?

I'm with the Jesus group. Dive on in...the water's great!  ;D

He did boast of all the money he gave away and, yet, he also boasted of only drawing the same $12,000 a year salary for decades. It was as if he was saying "look at all I can do with the little money I earn" and "you should be able to live on the paltry salary we pay" at the same time. I think he counted on people believing whatever he said and never even questioning the discrepancy between the vast sums of money given (without the source of the money ever being referenced to my knowledge) and the humble salary he received from the church. I also think it was a way to silence any request for more money from any staffer, teacher, professor, etc. because it just would not be right to pay any of them more than the Preacher was making, would it?

Remember the illustration of how he could be a millionaire at any time? He had a wealthy relative that had given him a deed to a valuable property that he kept in his drawer. All he had to do was sign it and he would be a millionaire. It was an example he used to illustrate how little he cared for money and how little you should care for money. The truth is, he was a multimillionaire all the while he was telling that story. His book sales and love offerings and probably other sources had given him vast amounts of untaxed, unaudited, and unaccounted for money. The illustration was a lie in that he didn't need to become a millionaire - he already was one. Allegedly, his estate was worth $14,000,000 at his death. That's a pretty good accumulation of wealth for someone who didn't care about money.

I wasn't there during the Jack Schaap years but I can't imagine that he used any "poor, humble me" illustrations. Did he?

She also said Jack Hyles owned everything! He did not! And that lie causes me to question other thinks she says in her speech and chapters she has released.  He probably had $ from book sales, speaking engagements and any investments he might have had. How else could a woman who was a housewife all her life retire in Texas and not have to find a job after her husband dies.

That was probably a poor choice of words on her part-she should have said her dad CONTROLLED everything.  Of course he is not going to own the church properties in his name and be subject to federal income taxes-just common sense it would be in the churches name.

Exactly -- and the church would do whatever he suggested, so it was "like" owning all of that, but he really didn't.

It seems likely that he made millions from the sales of his books.  He talked boasted of all the funds he gave away.

Long gone welcome back

Sherry,

I have read a lot but not posted.  You may be interested to know I owe much to the original forum. Renee Massi Bush and I were both from Bensalem Baptist near Philly.  We had lost track of each other and became reacquainted through the forum in 2001. We kept in touch via email and text for years.  Our friendship took a romantic turn about 2 1/2 years ago. Last December I retired and moved from Harrisburg, PA to the Lexington area and we got married December 28th. A great decision.

that is great news..........I always thought Renee was a sweetheart..I'm so happy for you . Many blessing to you and your new life..

I thought most HAC grads would be with the KJVO group; or the separated group; or the Soul Winning group; or the anti-CCM group.

Just being identified as the Jesus group would be too ecumenical for them.

Thank you for defining the "Jesus group".  :)

No, that would be the commandments of men group.  :D

Didn't FBCH vote at one time to continue JH's salary to Mrs. Hyles until her death? I thought I remember being there for a vote like this. She was to receive her husbands salary until she died.

$12,000 a year is an awesome salary to have for the rest of your life. :)

Yes... And there was some money being paid regularly to former pastor's wife as well. I do not think it was anything close to Mrs. Hyles or if that is still being done or even if that wife is still alive.

Think that Mrs. Hyles name would show on the financial statements if it is still being done. Someone there grab one and post it!

I believe Mrs. Hyles wrote to us and asked us to discontinue the payments as it was extremley embarrassing for her considering she is independently wealthy and FBCH was in deep financial trouble at the time with the Schaap situation.

Praise  the LORD we have past out of that wilderness. I seem to remember it was around 40,000.00 plus a new Lincoln and health insuance.

It may have been more.

I heard the money now goes to Vic for the pain and suffering of being forced to live in his basement.
