I know this is a divisive topic but this is directed towards those who love Bro. Hyles or Schaap or simply the IFB culture and belief system and asked out of curiosity.

When Lester Roloff wanted a church to go to fit for his daughters he moved to FBC of Hammond. But now that Bro. Hyles and Schaap are gone...

What are the great IFB churches of this century with leaders of the caliber, zeal and brand of Baptist beliefs of the famous preachers of last century?

We'll not know this side of glory and maybe not the next. That question got us in trouble in  the 20th century.

Probably in a small town somewhere with a small number of members...

...and you'll likely never hear of them.

IOW, hopefully, the show is over.

You have stars in your eyes.
The ruin of the "Independent" Baptists was the national ministry.

My thoughts ... it's time to start all over again.  Start from the very beginning with a small group of people and let it begin from there.  Don't bring your good ole' boys with you from your old church.  Start with a brand new group of people, that means start going door to door letting the people know you're starting a brand new church - no association with anyone or anything.  You have to break the ties from everything.  I think people have had enough of all the big time, big mouth, nothing doing, no one caring preachers, teachers, people.  It's time to start from the beginning and caring for the people before you can do anything.  Just my opinion.

I think for the most part IFB churches have been doing this, of course, what I speak of are those IFB churches that have never affiliated themselves with the Gomez's, Jenkins, Hyles, Schaaps, Grays, Capacis and the like.    These guys need little churches to follow them.  So they go and preach at these churches and take the young people from the smaller churches.  They preach a "GREAT" motivational "Biblical" sermon and these young people have been taught to idolize them and there you have it.

Wow! My thoughts exactly! I must have a fever!

Well, I got the anti IFB crowd to give their comments. Since those who still hold to the IFB culture and philosophies of last century have not answered, my answer would be that there are none. None according to the standards of last century's IFB culture; zeal, large church numbers etc. Whether that was philosophy was wrong was not the point. The point was is there a church with a pastor that fits the mold that was exalted and promoted last century.

And no prophet, I don't see stars. Unlike many, that is a personal issue I never had to overcome due to my lack of IFB exposure. Beam in the eye my brother...beam in the eye.

We don't even see any HA Ironside's, Bob Jones Sr's., John Rice's, Curtis Hutson's, J Vernon McGee's and a litany of others ... These were great men of God that were respected by most Fundamentalists of every stripe.  They were respected, loved, above reproach (as far as I know).
Really and truly, there are few of that caliber any more.

Above reproach.

That is the key.

That was the problem with MOGs of recent years. They may or may not have sinned, but they came across

as not being above reproach. You always wondered maybe they did it. Then the evidence dribbled out.

Many of them should have stepped down as ecclesiastical professionals, but instead they fought on.

This caused reproach on the cause of Christ. The church is paying the price for the pride and arrogance.

Man in his religion thinks in these terms.

If we are going to crown some new IFB heroes may I suggest the 1000's unknown country pastor's who have humbly spent their lives serving God & their community.

How about the many small town pastors, who gladly work a second job because their church can not afford to give them benefits & a living wage.

How about the pastors who spend 50, 60, 70 hrs a week cleaning the church, visiting the sick, driving the bus, working with the teens, preparing the sermons & on & on because they are the only one to do it.

I would also like to add to the list the many Baptist missionaries who have spent their adult lives serving on the foreign field in conditions most of us would not tolerate for even a week. Instead of voting on a new IFB Pope lets recognize some of these unsung heroes.

I’m saving my standing ovations for some of these unsung heroes.

Great thoughts bgwilkinson.

I also liked your ode to the unknown pastor, sword.

I started this thread because a friend brought up the subject of last century's "great" IFB preachers/churches and I asked him, "what about this century?"
He couldn't give me a single name.

Now I'm shoutin' Amen... Absolutely shouting it at the top of my voice.

I agree! That was one of the best posts I have ever read on the FFF...

A great big amen!
