What is the "Grace life?"

Galatians 2:11-15
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world,
13 looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ,
15 These things speak and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

After all that scripture, all I have to say is, "Close your Bibles and look up here at me now."

See also "traditions of men"

What traditions are you referring to exactly?

Any standards and convictions that you have.

Bible versions. Dress "standards". Movies. The order of worship. Hymnody. Politics with a veneer of religion. Tee-totaling on alcohol. Pope as pastor. Congregational governance. Judgement instead of mercy. Hatred instead of love. Shall I go on?

Yes, what church have you been a member of, operated this way?

Go ahead and give the name of the pastor and name of the church please. Thanks!

In his living room in front of a t.v.

I have attended a IB church my entire adult life, and I have never experienced a pastor that operates this way.

My wife wears pants we go to the movies and go to the great Satan Disney every year. All of this and he lets me teach Sunday School at times.

Just sayn, rsc2a.

I have attended an IFB church my entire life as well, and apart from the one I now pastor, none have been as you have described.

Luck of the draw I guess. I don't know what to tell you.

Romans 5:2 "By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God."

It is a life lived by faith, as opposed to law, that opens up the Grace of Christ.

Do you know anyone who is trying to follow the law?
Loads of people.

You need to get away from the kitchen table....

One day you'll come up with new material...

Yes, I have been part of churches that operated this way. And, no, I won't give the names...what value is there in that other than bringing bringing someone down needlessly?

Needlessly?  Oh, my bad, I thought your list of accusations were supposed to be pretty severe, as you love to harp on this stuff.

<shrug> Guess not.

Everyone, pay no attention to the rodents accusations anymore.

95% of your posts try to bring someone down needlessly.

No, don't close them, just a simple answer.

Yes, your comment was interesting.

Under "Serving Requirements" at a church I previously attended, here are a few of the published requirements.

Lay down your will for the good of the Body
        Opinions which divide
        Personal agendas
        Personality conflicts

Respect authority
        Be supportive of your leader
        Be submissive to his/her decisions

Don’t be a distraction; presentation is paramount

On the first item, in practice it meant "Don't have any doctrinal differences with the leadership...and if you do, you better shut up." It was easily followed by, "if you have any questions about either doctrine from the leadership or church practice, see point #2."

On the third item, that is one of the most Christ-less, world driven pieces of drivel that I've ever read.

I'm guessing that your resume' of "churches I previously attended" is quite large.

4 in about 20 years (including the one I'm part of now) including a move for college, graduation, marriage, two moves after marriage and kids.

I'm guessing your guess is wrong.

But I'm sure they don't pass out the "100% for Pastor"buttons. :D

I will have to say, that's not too bad.  I bet every one of your pastors was happy to have you in the fold.  :)

For too many people, the "Grace Life" is a whitewashed form of Hyper-Calvinism.

"I can't do good, God doesn't expect me to do good, only God can make me do good, so I don't have to try to be good."
(good being defined as actively and intentionally living a life in accordance to the Bible, including, dare I say it, standards.)

The young folks, including a lot of HAC graduates from the late 90's to mid 2000's love this.  It takes away all personal responsibility.

Grace should not be used as an excuse to not put for an effort to live like a Christian should live.  Nor should Grace be ignored in favor of legalism and self righteousness.

Sounds balanced to me!
