The rule you hated the most at HAC

Jeff Owens didn't like them, but there was never a rule against slits.  The rule was that the top of the slit could not be higher than the hem rule...which at one time was 2" from the floor when kneeling.  When JS came in, he had it changed to only one slit (slits on each side of the skirt was popular then) and that one slit could be no more than 4".

Slits were in the back when I went, it could not be higher than below the knee-thus no slits.

During my freshman and sophomore years I hated the rule requiring lights out at midnight.

During my Junior, Senior and graduate school years I did not like the rule requiring devotions at 11 pm on Mon, Tues and Thurs. Not that I didn't like devos, I just wanted to go to bed earlier.

I did not like the "Men must wear a sport coat at supper rule" but it was funny watching Jeff Hawkins try to catch those who didn't.

As unspiritual as this may sound, ladies' dorm devotions four nights a week.  We had to sit on the floor across from each other up and down a narrow hallway that was barely wide enough for our legs to stretch out.  Dorm supe stood on a chair to lead them and we had to look up and sideways to see her.

I understand dorm devotions once a week or so, but seriously, the time spend listening to "The Little Engine that Could" would have served me better with getting into bed and asleep sooner.

AMEN a dozen times to this one!! While I appreciate the devotions, at that time of night I was dog tired from being up at 5:00 in the morning to work the breakfast shift, and up all day. Once I was so sick/tired the dorm supe let me lay half in and half out of my room. Our health and well being was not thought of.

You stinkin' rebellious girls needed to glean from CF's wisdom.

A couple things I learned from Carole Frye.....never let her do the Easter Bunny hop and stay away from her cleavage clutches!!

That was what Teri in NC lived for!

The rule now is that you don't have to wear a sport coat to supper or even a neck tie. Just make sure you have a collared shirt that's ticked in.

Those kind of dumb rules of course mirror real life away from that college................ ::)

I am sure it made Jeff Hawkins feel important! I remember working with him in the kitchen.

What years did you work with him?

While I was not a great example of a "rule lover" while at HAC, I do see why some rules which outsiders look at as "stupid" were enforced.  I realize that 18 and 19 year olds are looked upon as adults.  I also realize how immature many 17, 18, and 19 year olds are.  I was definitely one of them!

I was in the kitchen fall of 82 until the spring of 84

After much thought. The rule I hated most was not being allowed to have a TV in my dorm room.

45 stinkin' mph for the busses.

Brings to mind one driver who, when asked by Bro. Ray why he was driving 60 on the Dan Ryan, replied, "Because it wouldn't do 80."
