Are we forgetting that what strangled the economy was the shutdown of goods and services?

Both parties are responsible for that debacle. In Republican Idaho, governor Brad (Chicken) Little sent the state police after restaurant owners I personally know because they tried to keep their business alive during the mandated shutdown. Imagine my surprise when I turned on Fox News and the guy is talking to Meghan Kelly (if memory serves me correctly) about government overreach/overreacting and how they were being prevented from maintaining their livelihoods.

Deficit spending is always damaging but the panicked shutdown of the very lifeblood of the economy is what destroyed it.

BTW, if you look at the line graphs, the economy was recovering while Trump was still in office.
 
Donald Trump was tried and convicted of 34 felonies that no one can connect to a crime. He was hauled into various courtrooms throughout his campaign. He was shot once with two more assassination attempts that failed. The nationwide news media gave him nothing but negative coverage while Kamala received nothing but positive coverage. He had backstabbers from his previous administration going on air spreading rumors of him praising Hitler. He got the Muslims in Michigan to vote for him and won over Hispanics on the Texas border that had not gone Republican for over a hundred years. He got elected and the massive caravan marching up through Mexico broke up. He called Putin about bringing peace in the war with Ukraine with positive feedback. His top advisor Elon Musk had a private meeting with Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations to bring down the temperature of a war that is close to going regional. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he prayed 30 minutes every day for 19 years when he got out of bed that God would put him in a position to end the chronic disease epidemic so we can restore health to our children, and he said, “God sent me Donald Trump.” Sylvester Stallone called Trump the “second George Washington.” But ladies and gentleman, all these accomplishments pale in comparison to the fact that Donald Trump is the only President in history to invent a new dance craze; the Trump Romp!

I know what the money was for. The point is that the responsibility falls on Mr. Trump for the checks he signed. Just like every other president. No one gets to say this or that expenditure shouldn’t count because bad things happened. Covid is also the “reason” given for much of Mr. Bidens deficits. If Mr. Trump gets a pass then the same should hold for Biden. Now from my perspective both of them blew up the budget and added to the deficit at levels far beyond any reasonable amount.

Maybe I look at it different but thats exactly what I do. If we are at war or now if we have a national pandemic then I give them a pass. I look at their economy before the pandemic hit 2017-2019 and 2022-2024 for Biden. Bidens policy issues were not so much the economy but all the other long term decisions he made. Excluding the border he left most of Trumps economic policy in place including the tax cuts, limited tariffs and the trade deal.

not sure how you factor it out but recovery because you allow businesses to open and people to go back to workis not economic growth or job creation. I was told I could not work then I got a cll that we were essental and I was back to work. Had nothing to do woth the economy or economic growth it was all policy decisions.
