We evidently have an outbreak in our church family. We’ve had 5 people who were in services Sunday test positive this week. I’m torn as how to respond. I’m considering cancelling our Christmas Eve service and maybe Sunday morning (we are only scheduled to have one service). I am fully aware that the risk of serious symptoms is low because our church family is probably 90% vaxed. I still feel responsible to do something to prevent a full blown outbreak in the congregation. Our attendance is creeping back to pre-Covid levels but on any given Sunday we are still 200 down from the same Sunday in 2019. Either way, this outbreak will not help our situation.

I agree that there is a huge number of people who have recovered from Covid and by some measure are better protected than the vaccinated. Those are never in the political conversation. The problem I see is that there’s no way to accurately measure/identify those people.

I love the way natural immunity is touted by the anti-vaxers. The best way to protect yourself against a highly infectious disease is to become deliberately infected by it.

If that was directed towards me, I am not an anti-vaxer (anti-mandate, yes) and I did not deliberately get infected with it. I took reasonable precautions - probably more precautions than many who are vaccinated.

Nope, not directed at anyone in particular, except insofar as Tarheel provided the topic. Natural immunity, which I assume exists since that's the way antibodies work, is one of those many things anti-vaxxers tout as "anything but the jab" alternatives.
 
We have cancelled our service’s… we’ve had a few more positive tests. Some with mild symptoms.
 
a couple of months ago our daiy new covid case count in hawaii was between 20 and 30 ..... after omicron was found here the daily case count began to steadily increase... and today we had 961 new cases........ and 2 deaths... both of which were long term patients infected with D variant..... they say they don;t know what to expect yet concerning the hospitalization rate of omicron but there has not been a significant increase yet..... .... in early summer 2020 when we hit the 900 daily case count figure all our hospitals were completely full and all ventilators being used... .....it could all change and the hospitals fill up over night.. ... but so far it looks like omicron won;t be the kind of extinction level crisis - demanding another lockdown through election day.... that the democrats are hoping for........ but we will see.... ..

so far omicron is doing what most viruses do when they mutate.... ..becoming more transmissible and less dangerous..... ....but all the same, i still don;t want to catch it...... so... even though i am fully vaccinated... i will continue to wear an N95 mask and socially distance from people outside my family or household any time i;m out in public...... .and will continue all the other precautions we started early last year... .... i believe double safe is better than once sorry.... but if i catch it anyway at least i won;t be vexed by the thought i wasn;t vaxed or think my health was taxed coz i didn;t do all i could to avoid it..... .:sneaky:...

There was a report that said omicron spreads 10x more than previous variants on airplanes. Since most people get to where you are by plane, I suspect that's why there is such an increase there.

they tracked a lot of the cases in the beginning of this thing to people who had travelled to and from las vegas..... .....we had it basically under control while tourism was on lock down.... ..but then as soon as it opened up again the cases started increasing... ...(actually... the cases started up again a week or so after the big BLM protest here too.... but then subsided again after a second lockdown....)..... . they stopped tracking it after we opened from the second lockdown and things appeared to level off... and when they last tracked it they found it was coming in from everywhere.. ..so tracking stopped serving a purpose...... .... . the state won;t survive another lockdown..... so i am not sure what they are going to do next....... .. i don;t think they know either........

today we had a large increase in the number of new covid cases reported ....1511 statewide.... up from 960 just 2 days ago...... and 85% of the cases are here on oahu.... 69 covid cases are currently hospitalized on oahu... with 10 of those being in the ICU... ... no report of deaths due to covid were made today.....

so... from the reports on this relatively remote chain of islands... you can see ...thanks to the omicron variant.. covid is once again on the increase.... but you can also see that the hospitalization percentage is much lower than when we had these kinds of positive test numbers last year..... and the percentage of those requiring an ICU bed is even lower still....... ..... so far that is positive news.... .mayor blangiardi says he will not support more government action on this and believes personal responsibility with the current guidelines already in place are the key to dealing with it....... ....

but our mayor is an independant who actually supported donald trump...... it remains to be see what the governor... an obamacrat ... will say or do.... and of course there always the federal fauci-crats who might have a few of their own surprises waiting for us... regardless of what the science is really telling us....

just thought i would pass this on in case anyone is interested..........

I know my wife and I didn't become "deliberately infected as you put it back in December of 2019. We also didn't become "deliberately infected" in August/September of this year when we had it. But, we lived through it both times. We're not vaxxed, nor do we intend to be. We know that natural immunity isn't a "cure-all" against the virus. Having had it twice, we also can disregard those flat-earthers who say that the virus is a hoax. Really? I sincerely doubt it...it's a bio-weapon, made with the help of Fauci, Gates, Soros, and others. I don't think ANYONE sets out to deliberately get infected with the virus. If they do, they're just plain stupid. Also, I'm not an anti-vaxxer...I'm against this particular poison pin being pushed by the government when there is a recovery rate of 99+%.
 
In another site I post on, there is a 72 year old man who doesn't seem to KNOW what the word "recovered" means. I just love it when people who are 12-15 years my senior are too danged STUPID to know what a word means and have to ask someone to "explain what the word means!" Semantics aren't this jokers strong suit! He posts statistics of infections, deaths, intubations, etc., but can't and won't post the numbers of people who are recovered from the virus. He says he can....but he can't, and he knows it. He's also one who has his nose so far up the government's hind end that he's in support of blindly following the "expert" "scientists" into the wonderland of poison pins. UGH!
 
2205 new positive covid cases reported sunday.. ... that is a 10,000 % increase since the beginning of december.... if the infection continues as is... without neither an increase or a decrease..... and if it;s true that the vaccines do not work against the omicron variant.... then everybody in the state of hawaii.... the entire island chain.... will be infected by the end of 2022..... ..... the medical centers reported 100 people are currently hospitalized with covid...(up from 34 hospitalized dec 13th)... ... . .. and although the percentge of hospitalizations per infection is still lower than the first variant last year... if the infection rate remains the same it could still over whelm the hospitals within a matter of time... . but if the rate increases it will overwhelm them much sooner..... ... .. and the problem with hawaii being the most isolated set of islands in the world is that there is no where to send overflow patients to.... .... .you can;t just put somebody in an ambulance and drive them to a hospital in the next county... there is no next county...... .. ......so at this point even the mayor who previously opted to go with voluntary precautions.. and advised personal reponsibility.. is considering going back to mandatory restrictions if the infection rate doesn;t drop...... .

and incidently.... i don;t know of any doctor or any medical facility here is that reporting how many people may have had covid... recovered on their own... and may now have naturally aquired immunity to it.... ..like attempting to prescribe hydroxychloriquine reporting on such a stat in a positive light is likely to get doctors sanctioned or disciplined.... so they are naturally going to play it down rather than build it up .. .... ...and even if they did report on what they knew thus far it would be a grossly incomplete statistic anyway... as not everybody who contracted covid and recovered even knows they had it....... ..people with mild cases that recovered quickly most likely never sought treatment or simply wrote it off as a case of the flu or a cold....

but i know of at least 2 who had it... did not seek treatment ...but are quite certain what they had was covid because they suffered a complete loss of their sense of taste and smell... and it has not returned.... ..they both say not being able to taste their food any more is the worst thing that has ever happened to them medically.... .....when they told me that i was imagining the effect it would have on me - as someone who considers good food one of the primo joys of life... and the imaginations were not pleasant.....

The points are these...1)infection rates are grossly over-exaggerated. Many of those who allegedly have "tested positive" have influenza. The tests given to determine if it's the VIRUS, cannot distinguish between influenza and corona virus'. Many doctors here have acknowledged that fact. They face possible discipline, but some of them are tired of the hyped-up numbers helping to do nothing but promote fear and the government's control over people. 2) So, that would make the statistics on the coronavirus unreliable. It's been blown WAY out of proportion. Physicians should be forced to report on the patients they have who have had the virus. Even knowing how many who have had the virus and recovered in each practice would be better than NO statistics at all.
 
all you said in your points is true..... .and all those points.... plus the high probability that this whole thing is a result of chinas attempt to create a bioweapon - with the feckless dr fauci as an accomplice and funding source... are things i said from the beginning of this thing last year.... ..and once you give a life time bureacrat authoritarian power using a public emergency as justification.... and then give that same bureacrat the authority to decide when and if that emergency exists.... good luck on ever getting it back.... ...but when we reach a point where doctors are being forced to do anything contrary to their own best interests....we run the chance of losing the best doctors...... ...they can and will find other ways to make a living that don;t put their own careers and futures at risk.....

but whether the hospitals are overwhelmed by severe and unusual cases of the flu.... or whether they are overwhelmed by covid... either way can be devastating to the medical systems and the communites that support them........ ..many types of illnesses can be difficult to diagnose early on even without incentives from the government to tweak the numbers... ..

for years many children with paroxysmal atrial tachycardia were treated with heavy and very dangerous medications intended for seizure disorders simply because nobody with the knowledge to tell the difference was there to see it when the children suffered a collapse.... and doctors therefor assumed the collapse and seziure that followed was caused by epilepsy rather than a cardiac condition leading to temporary hypoxia...... and in most cases it wasn;t until they became criritcal and were hospitalized... and then an incident occured in front of the medical staff that the truth was discovered... of course.. sadly.. by that time for many of them it was too late to avoid life altering damage to their bodies and development being done.... . .. .

and people i know who continue to work in the emergency medical field and the ICUs all say the same things can happen with covid and the flu...... they are hard to determine in the early stages. .... . it;s when they become critical that they see the biggest differences between the two and it becomes more evident.. even without a test... which one it is.... ... ..... ..... at the end stage flu tends to cause shock through massive dehydration.... and covid19 tends to cause shock through oxygen desaturation.... ..but when either of those 2 things reach that critical point where shock occurs they cause massive organ failure that cannot be reversed .... so while the symptoms at the critical stage make discernment easier... in the end the result is all the same..... a rude un-hinging of the machinery of life... the very definition given to shock in the first place..... ....... when hospitals find themselves saturated with shock patients and more on the way... the hospital itself begins to suffer a kind of shock... and all it;s mechanism to both treat their patients and stay in business become rudely unhinged... .. as does the wellbeing of the communites that both support them and rely on them....

still.... i am not saying anyone who doesn;t want to be vaccinated should be pressured to do so.....i still believe personal responsibility and common sense measures to protect oneself is the key to avoiding it... if it can be avoided... ..i;m just explaning the reasoning behind those in the field who are trying to deal with this thing on a daily basis... ...
