The dumbest question you heard at HAC

No. He shouldn't have.
Then you say, "He didn't get a paycheck from his own church?

It's so appropriate................NOT...........that you have such strong/wrong opinions about a subject of which it is evident that you have little or no experience or knowledge of but butt in anyway.  :-\

Well he did pull down thousands of dollars a week in speaking fees, not to mention his not for profit Hyles Publications where he collected all the money and the church paid all the expenses. Sweet deal.

I think the words "speaking fees" is a bit deceiving.  The church at which he spoke would have to pay to get him there and put him in a hotel.  The offering were free will offerings.  Should he not have kept these offerings?

No. He shouldn't have.

Just when we think you have posted the dumbest post of the year you surprise us all and raise the bar.

There is a pastor I admire.  His policy is simple: any offerings or such that he receives for speaking,  book sales,  etc go to the church.  If the other elders choose to give him a portion, fine. If not,  fine.  But it is the elders who determine his income level since he had to take from the church to do these other things.  The ministry isn't being used as a way for him to grow wealthy.

"His policy" is great for him and his church.  That doesn't mean that "his policy" is the correct policy for everyone.  At FBCH "the policy" was that Jack Hyles could use the love offerings that he received to supplement his income.  Again "the policy" at FBCH is not the policy for everyone.

Yeah.  Some churches don't have a problem with their leaders milking widows to get wealthy.

You are out in left field............with no glove.

It's called integrity. He also has a policy of either bringing his wife or another elder every time he goes on an overnight trip.

But then,  I am quite aware if how strong the man-worship is in some churches...

It is not a lack of integrity for a preacher to accept a love offering.  Get your head out of............the sand.

Why were upper echelon staff allowed to keep their love offerings, but tour group speakers had to turn in to the college all of theirs?

I believe the honorarium fees / offerings have become a matter of pride and generated a good-ol-boy system.

Because it was the policy that was established.  I'm sure HAC was paying for the vehicle, fuel, etc.

Everyone is equal, it's just that some are more equal than others.

Do as I say,  not as I do.

I wonder sometimes,... A smaller church or a financially struggling church having guest speakers on a fairly regular basis. What if a pastor just Pastored his own local church? What if there were no special offerings to cover "Conference costs" or travel arrangements? What if,...

Right.....What if, you had 5 or 6 men in your church preach for the week instead of hiring someone?  Makes perfect cents to me.

Is that the kind of church you go to?

Nope!

But I do "think" he has gotten better, much better.

Unless the Lord leads otherwise, I do not give in the offering time when we do have guest preachers, never.

If the money is not in the bank already and we are unable to pay for something like this up front, I don't give.

I tithe and give to missions.  If the church is unable to put back throughout the year and pay for these guys when they come, then we shouldn't have them come.

Please, do not misunderstand me.  I have a great relationship with my pastor and we talk and laugh much together.  But you bes believe he knows what I think about a whole lot.  LOL!!! :)

What if IFB churches actually used evangelist instead of having all their buddy pastors come to preach for them?

It is usually just to get the pastor and their friends/family together on the church's dime; Maybe go hunting or fishing too.
