I just read most the of the thread at the other forum where Wtyson and Invictus argued.  Vic was out of hand with his name calling, but he is right. Absolutely.

The bible does not command people to go door to door soul winning.  It only commands us to preach the gospel to all nations.

Vic made me laugh.  Wtyson looked like a fool for not just admitting that it does not say that.

The title of the thread is Tebow.

I'm sure it doesn't command a lot of what you do, Bobbo.

Tom, I agree with your post also. But I was not condoning not doing any form of witnessing. Wherever and whenever you get a chance, and on purpose too.

Well it may be true that "door to door" is not commanded, but don't any of you dare say that Bus ministries are not commanded in Scripture!!!! ;D 8)

Hmmmmm, after hours of Scripture searching, I can't find the command to have a bus ministry.

However, I did find the command to use the Japanese Method of evangelism.

Yep, you know the verse.

Acts 1:14 KJV (just in case DD is lurking LOL).

While driving to your target neighborhood, you must drive a Honda Accord.

;D  ;D

( Yeah, I know; old joke. So sue me LOL )

I would say one of the worst things about this kind of thing is when leadership tries to make out like you are a subpar christian for not using certain tools of evangelism.

In my experience the problem isn't that people in the church are using a different tool of evangelism. It is that they aren't using any tool of evangelism. They stand there and beam for Jesus and think they are fulfilling the Great Commission. I make no bones about the fact that I promote door to door personal evangelism, but I'd be thrilled if my people openly and actively witnessed in any format. The problem is that most of them don't, period...and that IS, in your words, sub-par Christianity.

Well said Tom.

An increasingly popular method in IFB circles of getting the gospel into homes is by mailing or personally delivering John and Romans which not only gives the "Romans Road" but gives them in context because they are getting the whole book of Romans as well as the whole book of John.

I saw what Vic was doing. he was goading Wtyson.  Trying to incite him to do whatever.  It was hilarious.  If Wtyson would have just manned up and admitted that he was wrong, Vic would have laughed.
I failed to see the humor in a 'so called brother in Christ' using vile and vulgar language to prove his point. But hey that's just me.

World without end, Amen!

Somethings never change...

AS I said to Vic over and over and over again we are commanded to preach the gospel to every creature. Door to door soul winning is one of MANY different ways to reach people for Christ. (very effective I might add along with the BUS ministry) The first centruy church filled Jerusalem with His doctrine...you think they did everything but go to peoples houses? I think not.

I still contend Vic was vulgar, vile and lewd in his comments. Many gave him a pass on it. (some did not) I don't apologize one bit for believing in reaching people where they are...in their homes.

How is this "getting the gospel into homes," especially if they're being mailed out? Did the people request it or is it a form of "sanctified junk mail"? I'm not sure what that accomplishes aside from making sure the postal service has something to do.

At least personal delivery shows that they are cared about (sort of).

I would never underestimate the power of the gospel and scripture.  There are many in America that have never been inside a church door and know nothing about Christ.  While you may consider it sanctified junk mail, many are also put off by personal testimonies.  While arguing against door to door visitation be careful that you don't become guilty of condemning other ways of at least exposing the gospel to those who may never be reached any other way.  Not only did God use a simple tract left in a flower pot where I worked to bring me under conviction, I have heard many, many personal testimonies of people saved by reading a tract someone left anonymously.

So according to this crowd...you don't knock on doors...you don't mail tracks or materials?

What exactly do you do to reach people for Christ?

They like to go to the local pub or watering hole and knock back some cold ones whilst listening to Stone Temple Pilots and talk about the latest Prayer of Jabez book.

If there was EVER a thread originated for the simple reason to start trouble on a forum, it would be this one.  ::)

Wtyson is a sincere man of God that attempts to be faithful to what God has called him to do.  He doesn't insult or goad people.  He's a class act.

Matt 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

When folks spend all their time at church and church-sponsored activities they tend to not see other means of evangelism as plausible. How else would they interact with the unsaved?

There are options.

Get to know your neighbors. Lend them a hand if they need one. When a neighbor is hurt or sick, bring them over dinner for a while. If they are spending Christmas alone, invite them to your house so they can see how you celebrate the Savior.

Coach a community sports team. You get to meet lots of families this way and provide a positive influence for kids. My pastor recently mentioned this as a great avenue for evangelism.

Volunteer at a shelter, food bank, or food kitchen. You will interact with the unsaved a lot.

Instead of spending all your time with those at your church, get out into the community and let your light so shine before men that they see your good works and how they glorify God.

My pastor has recently introduced these evangelism programs to our church and is currently seeking volunteers. I have not seen these programs in action yet:

Global Media Outreach - Become an online missionary

Best suggestions ITT.  :D

Think Christ-follower, not just Churchian.

I did that; except it was Pearl Jam  :)
