Taking yourself too seriously

While he did have the gift of teaching, he seemed to think quite a bit of himself (and I'm speaking of his behavior at HAC).

Not sure that he had the gift of teaching. His material was stolen and the competition was less than adequate. The one eye man is king in the land of the blind.

While he used the same type of format as Wiersbe, I believe the notes were different.  I'm not sure you can call that "stolen".

Does that have something to do with Inspired or Preserved?

IMHO is was close enough that credit should have been given to Wiersbe. Going back to the original topic it was a matter of him giving the appearance that he was given wisdom most people lacked. I will agree that there is nothing new under the sun but a subject so be studied enough that you are able to give a fresh perspective.

Ray Y once told me if I dropped out of the bus ministry (his division) God would never use me.

I'm glad I did not listen to that stuff. And I'm also glad that the leaders of the other ministries that I was involved in while trying to get a well-rounded ministry education did not say the same thing .

If you had it to do over again, knowing what you know now, would you still attend Hyles Anderson?
Coulda-Woulda-Shoulda & it's too late now.............but NO. I would have retired from the USMC.

For sure!  He was still a student when I was there but he acted like a staff member.

He was a student while I was at HAC.  I remember as a freshman he told me to take as many of Joe Comb's classes as I possibly could.

Really?  I thought she was a sweetie.  Loved her class on "Music in a Soul Winning Church".  Very practical.

I took one of Mrs. Colsten's classes and thought that she was a wonderful person.

Dr. Jorgensen

He was definitely a different sort, but I'm not sure I would put him in this category.

I had Jim Jorgenson  for Greek and regarded him as Godly and competent.

Jimmy is a nice guy.  Stern but fair.  And a great singer.

I would agree with this one.  He always seemed to have a bit of an arrogance about him.

This is the kind of thing that was a bit too common at HAC.

I believe some of the problems in this area started out very innocently.  We heard preaching on, "Whatever job you have in the ministry is the most important job in the world and you ought to treat it so".  I believe we would all agree with this to a point.  The problem is the guy or gal that took it to the next level and abused their authority.

RE: Mrs. Colsten
She was a strange, strange lady. Her kids would tell you that she had some ways of looking at things. Maybe it was being raised in the Mennonite life. I will give her credit for her graduation from Ball State Teacher's College in Muncie, Indiana. She was a person who seemed proud that her head was in the sand and tried to make you feel bad if your head wasn't there, as well!

Don't we all???  :)

I haven't posted too many comments here on the forum, but if I got after so many of you for the comments you make, the words you choose to use,  the way you try to convey a thought, misspelled words, or verifiable proof, we'd be back and forth on quite a regular basis. I don't intend to do that to any of you. Could we all just take a breath and try to be a source of support or keep an open mind? Even if you don't get it on the first pass? Perhaps just think about it? No need to reply.
