We had a free willy preach at HAC chapel, when I was in school.

Wasn't there a Freewill Baptist pastor that was a converted gypsy that spoke at FBCH/HAC sometime in the second half of the 70s?  Richard Wurmbrand spoke at FBCH and he was Lutheran.  I am sure we could come up with a collection of non-IFB types.

I see Vic Nischik smiling and leading singing in Brother Hyles' adult Sunday School class.

His actions during the time, that he later described as his reason for divorcing his wife, caused me to not take him seriously later.
I wouldn't have walked in with my arm around a guy, smiling and laughing,  who was stealing my wife's affection out from under me.

Exactly!  He also bragged on Dr. Hyles and acted like he was the world's greatest preacher.

Back in the 60's and 70's when Bro Hyles still baptized, the two men who assisted Bro Hyles in the water were Johnny Colsten and Vic Nishchick.  This is the same time periods that all of the shenanigans were to have started.  It's uncanny the closeness that these two men had, whether in the baptistery, walking in together and sitting on the platform together for the Pastor's Class. Vic also held a deacon position where he'd preside over the Wed business meetings when Don Krueger was absent.  Vic was the FBC choir director in the 60's for some time.  The Hyles' and Nishchick's were nearly neighbors, living about 3 homes from one another.  Makes one wonder!

My father, who sat on the deacon board with VN for years, told me that VN would attack anyone who offered a suggestion that was contrary to Bro. Hyles's already voiced suggestion, with vitriol like "don't you touch God's annointed", and " That's my preacher".

Yeah, fiction was never this strange.

Bill Grady was the first pastor to teach me that those who compliment you the most will also be those who cut you the most. I've been a pastor for 18 years. He was spot on. People that are overly complimentary or loyal make me exceedingly nervous...

Tom, you have been a real blessing to me.  I believe you are the world's greatest preacher.  If you told me to jump off a bridge into the Chicago River I would.  I love you, brother.  :)

Is there such a thing as second hand loyalty like there is second hand separation.  I mean, if I would jump off a bridge for Raider, does that mean I also would jump off a bridge for Tom?

Once again, BCH, your blind loyalty is refreshing.  In answer to your question, yes, it is a must for you to be blindly loyal to that which I am blindly loyal.

Remember that day in the 60s when Bro. Hyles  had that community organizer and Presbyterian Minister, Ian Paisley speak for us? He wasn't preach-en KJVO then, but I think it had an effect on Bro. Hyles that caused him to change in the late 70s.

He did allude to the Magic Blood theory though.

Presbyterians were just fine in the 60s.

The close relationship Bro Hyles had with Methodist Bob Jones.

Bro. Hyles was truly not afraid to have non Baptists in our Baptist church.

...reading a book right now on the history of the Troubles, etc. in Northern Ireland. The writer doesn't like Paisley much. But methinks the writer is Catholic.  :D

Love English history.

yup, Paisley was a militant Protestant. Catholics and Protestants have been killing each other since before Bloody Mary Tudor.

It's amazing all the killing and murder that passes for religion. :(

Used to be that they had more in common than they didn't.

This kind of dialog motivates me!
