Ironic, isn't it? Paying $28K for something like that but I'll bet if you hit a jackpot on one of their slots, they'll try to claim equipment malfunction to avoid paying out.

remember the ending of the movie thunderball?.. when james bond and his bond girl of the moment - got snatched up into the air by a B-17 equipped with a skyhook device?....... ...well .....here it is...... the original B-17 from the movie with it;s apparatus still attached..... ... this ww2 bomber actually had a very colorful history both during ww2 and also afterwards with the CIA.....

was wondering was - how did he manage to hold on to his girl as they were yanked

that is awesome...... spreads out like a banyan tree... .. just think of the tree house you could build in that.... reminds me of something robin hood would have lived in..... ... our old hunting camp we had in the kaau crater was built into a banyan tree that wasn;t even as big as this oak.... ...we kept all the canvas tarps and other supplies for it in sealed buckets hidden in the roots of the tree..... .

it was for wild boar... it was in the much heavier forested area on the mauka... (or mountain) ..side of the crater.. it consisted of a bamboo framework attached to the banyan tree roots and branches...with a bamboo floor laid over it and hole left over a large boulder beneath the frame that we used to build a cooking fire on......
whenever we went up there we pulled the tarps ropes and other gear out of the buckets and set them up as a canopy and etc.... but when we weren;t up there and all that other stuff was put away the framework and floor tended to blend in with the foliage when seen from the trail and crater floor below....
when the camp was taken down someone could be a few yards away from the frame and never see it... .. ..a stream that ran close to it came down through the jungle from the base of the cliffs where there was a small pool and a waterfall..... we could drink the water that was falling from above but once it hit the basin we didn;t trust it for drinking... ..but it was good for everything else... ....
it was a really awesome camp... they had already built it a few years before i joined the family.... .. but it;s all gone now..... ..the bamboo has rotted away and we removed the buckets and supplies once people started finding the camp.... back in the day nobody ever went up there to that crater... few people even knew about it.... google earth did not yet exist and had not yet put an image of it from space on the internet.... but thanks to a remote hiking trails book some idiot wrote - (that included the crater in it).. it became over run with both local adventurists and also tourists....

Sounds like your family had a little piece of paradise with that hunting camp. In Florida, duck blinds are now illegal on public lands unless it is a temporary structure that is torn down immediately when someone is done hunting. There are a few old hunting blind structures that are left on public property and are grandfathered in, but they’ve just about become a thing of the past. Most guys in Florida with nice structural blinds are millionaires who own hundreds or thousands of acres and like to redneck it up on the weekend.

the trail leading in and out of the kaau crater is known as one of the most dangerous and treacherous trails on oahu... .many people have been seriously injured now that it has become popular for adventurist hiking.. and some have even died..... and even in the hiking guides trying to promote the trail it is clearly spelled out that it;s a venture only for people who are in top physicial condition.... ..it;s rated as an experts only... part of the trail below the crater goes up the face of a waterfall... that;s where many nonphysicially fit types turn around.... ..... i have never seen the people leaving reviews refer to it as paradise... but more than one of them have said it was like stepping into a jurassic world.... and some of the densest tropical rainforest they had ever seen so close to a city..... ...
and although the crater itself is considered public domain... it;s actually restricted state property... . and the lands where the trails exist into it are all on private property.... so even though the state turns a blind eye to capable hikers anyone going there has to obtain permission from property owners to cross their lands.. and also sign releases of liabiity in case they do get injured....
but back when we use to hunt up there the trail was virtually nonexistent.. ..... if we let too much time go by between hunting trips the jungle would close in and occlude the trail .... but we knew all the property owners and had full permission not only to hunt and build a camp up there but also to clear sections of the trail as needed if we had too.... .... back in those days hawaii was in the midst of a program to rid the island of wild pigs and my dad had actually been asked by both the state and the property owners if he could go up there and hunt them.... ...... my older siblings all obtained their hunting licenses as state wildlife control contractors.... and when i had practiced enough to finally pass the skills test i got my license too....
i still have my hunting license and my dad and i still hunt from time to time... but not up there.... we drive up into an even more remote area we can access with the jeep by way of old military trails and dry ravines..... and then we set up a tent up next to the jeep.... ..much easier on my dad who is not as young or physicially capable as he use to be ...... all these places are on military owned property which we also have permission to access.... and it;s very unlikely it will ever be listed in a hiking trails book... .
