President Jimmy Carter

LOL.

Since we're all into book recommendations, here's one I think is needed for certain former members of my audience ;)

View attachment 6423

Careful though, if you two actually start reading what I've actually written, you may not have anything to talk about with each other. 🧐
I was thinking of recommending this one for you: 1738003424191.jpeg

english was not my first language.... nor was it the last one i learned... .. i am fluent in 5 other languages as well... .. but even then - in the culture i live in - there are plenty of people with grammar far worse than mine and yet engish is the only language they know... .. it;s just the way things are in hawaii.. .....

but even knowing all that the forum grammar police have been criticizing my writing here for years....(they also know i have dyslexia and problems with schizophrenia).... .... ... but which is worse?.... bad grammar and mispelled words that attempts to be righteous and friendly?.... or perfect grammar punctuated with filth and obscenity?....... .. i leave it up to the forum jury - which is apparently still sequestered in deliberations on it - somewhere ....maybe they will come back with a verdict someday..

In an effort to get things back on track here, I’ve never argued that Carter was a very effective president. I think his 1980 election results speak for themselves. I would argue that he was probably an underrated president, and the more time that passes by, the historians seem to conclude that.

Regarding his religious beliefs, that’s really the crux of the argument here. I’m not a big believer in reposting what others have said about a position when it is documented in actions and words. I agree he probably should have been more outspoken about some topics like abortion. If he didn’t agree with abortion, and since he had a position of power as a former president, he could have been more vocal, but he did document his position on video and in books.

By the way, a guy like Carter and Clinton wouldn’t have a chance of winning the Democratic primary in today’s world. Even Biden was far more conservative than most of the Squad members preferred, but then again, Biden wasn’t really running the country for the most part. I’d argue that Carter and Clinton would pretty much be on par with the average Republican politician of today (referring to their stances when they were in office in the 70s and 90s).

OK, let’s step back and analyze this situation. Up until just a couple of years ago when the Supreme Court overturned abortion rights, Roe v Wade had been the law for decades. As president, Carter signed the Hyde Amendment in 1977 in an effort to restrict abortion and ban federal funding for it, an amendment named after a Republican who wrote the bill. Regardless of whether our presidents have been Republican or Democrat, until the Supreme Court was restocked, every president hasn’t been able to do anything more than Carter did. Oh, and Carter didn’t have the opportunity to elect a Supreme Court justice.

Carter hasn’t been the leader of the Democratic Party since January 1981. He’s been nothing more than an ex-president, and as such, the most he could do is what he did in that video, which is to say he wasn’t on board with abortion, and couldn’t ever religiously reconcile with it.

Up until some of Trump’s SC justice picks, where does this leave the court appointees that other presidents (including Republicans) picked? It’s true that Carter could have been more vocal about the issue as a former president, but then you’d have to hold these other presidents to the same standard. And by the way, some of you on this very forum are on record as saying you voted for Clinton and even Obama, so where does this leave you? Certainly in Obama’s time, the Democrats were fully entrenched in the pro-choice camp.
Well, I surely didn't vote for Clinton or Obama, and never even entertained the thought. Whether Carter tried to limit abortion or not isn't the point! He stayed associated with the party that held alleged abortion rights as one of their sacred cows when he could have come out more forcefully against it. His being proud to have cast a vote for Kamala Harris just goes to show he had no backbone and was duplicitous in all he did.

I seriously doubt he cast a vote for anyone. The last couple of years he looked like a living corpse. That line was being fed to the media by his grandson, which was supposedly from Jimmy Carter.

? "Imagine no heaven" ???? Not too beautiful for me
I was referring to the tune, not the select three words you chose to highlight with negativity and multiple question marks. ❓❓❓❓
but that;s the whole point huk.... it;s the first 3 words of the song.. .. the words that set the theme for the rest of the piece.... and to a christian the words "imagine there;s no heaven" is the same as saying God lied to us..... .... from the very beginning - all the way back to the garden of eden - when he spoke to eve in the form of a beautiful creature... that has been the words satan uses to deceive the world... .. he creeps up next to us in ways every bit as appealing as the melody of that music and says God has told us lies...... ..... and if we buy into that one then the next thing he tells us is that there is no God....

and to the point you were making with baptist city holdout - who can listen to the music by itself without having the words run through their mind as well?.... .. not to sound like the church lady or the water boys mother - but that song is the devil.... . or... debil.. as she would have put it... the music is ruined because it was used to spread the devils message... .. .. i still can;t believe there are christian churches that actually play that song and sing it..... sometimes the thirst for contemporary music carries christians too far.....

I believe he did cast a vote for Harris, absentee. Though he slept a lot and was on hospice, his family members believed he did as well. We can only go by what they said. You can believe what you will, that's your right.

Please, don't confuse Huk with the truth. It seems lately he's always trying to find a way to defend the indefensible.

I’ll concede it isn’t an appropriate song for church. I won’t read into it more than that. I wouldn’t play it at my funeral, but I guess each person can do whatever they wish at that time.
