"Preachers say a lot of things they shouldn't say."

"That sounds like a great title for a thread.  But probably already done."

Take it from here, ladies and gentlemen.

Like the preacher who is preaching on the armor of a Christian and spiritual warfare against the enemy. As he got loud &  thundering out, pounding the pulpit, in his preaching & kept shouting over & over saying,  "You better watch out for the fiery darts of the devil!"

"You better watch out for the fiery darts of the devil!"

"I'm telling you, you better watch out for the diery farts of the devil!"

Everyone was laughing so hard & so long that he finally closed his Bible, apologize for mixing the words up & set down, ending his sermon.

Are we talking about slips of the tongue (as in the first example), or deliberate statements?

I remember one church at which the pastor said something like "If you don't like ***, you can leave" -- so, some people did.

His statement sounded like something he shouldn't say - perhaps people should have been encouraged to stay and study the Scriptures, or something more gracious.

I would say since it would create more posts, we'll go with either way the title of the therad could be interpreted.

My friend was in a church once where the pastor was dismissing the church... I don't remember if he told me that he said "Let's pray and ask God to bless the food" or if he actually prayed that God would bless the food.

I heard it got a lot of chuckles, though.

Hear a preacher say (jokingly) that he was trying Rogaine for his hair.

The problem was he said Viagra instead.

I knew a preacher who was preaching about Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego in the fiery furnace and asked the question,  "Do you know what the Lord said abut them?

He quoted the verse,  Well done .........................thou good and faithful servants.

Heard a preacher say that Fundamentalism rested on his shoulders.

I heard Bro. Hyles say something close to that when he told about being at the top of the KGB hit list.

Every Great Man of God thinks he is the one that is indispensable.

So why did Hyles say it?

He wanted his listeners to realize what a Great Man of God he was and how important the fundamental movement actually was.

So he was blowing smoke again, eh?

Jackie-boy Hyles taught that God gave Adam a job before he gave him a wife & family. Therefore,  a man in ministry should consider that order for his life & ministry.

1st Work
2nd Wife
3rd Family

But..................For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?  I Tim. 3:5

I was going to say what woman would marry a man who had no job, then I thought of those I've met in prison (men) with women wanting to marry them while they're still in prison.
