Jack Hyles

For those with time on their hands - here is the Mother Of All "Jack Hyles Exposed" web pages, courtesy of Steve Van Nattan of the Blessed Quietness web site, formerly known as "Balaam's Ass."

Van Nattan pulls no punches in his critique of the Jacks: "With the arrest and jailing of Jack Schaap, Jack Hyles' hand picked successor at First Baptist of Hammond, who is also Hyles' son-in-law, this story finally has its final verdict-- These men will burn in hell. . . .No one in Christendom, nor in witchcraft, nor the sodomites, have sent me more filthy and hateful mail than the Hyles people. They are bullies with no restraint. Their level of hate is beyond measure. In fact, I have lost my confidence in the Baptist concept. The lust for porn, power, and pesos by Baptist preachers, by and large, is beyond anything I have seen in the rest of Christendom. . . .If you take pleasure in First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana, or if you defend the two Jacks, YOU are taking pleasure in their vile perverted sex crazed program. You will burn in hell. You are a BASTARD"

"LETTER FROM A PASTOR: I pastor a Baptist church here in Alabama, I also attended Hyles college for 2 1/2 years before I realized my need to move on. Since then, I have seen so many churches torn apart over loyalty to this man. The fundamental issue of Jesus Christ was always laid to the side as people argued over Hyles, Bob Jones, Lester relief
[I think he means Roloff] or any other person they gave their loyalty to."
Always love that website. Having known many who knew both JH and Schaap, and with the interactions I had with both, I have to say, Thank you JESUS that I didn't get caught up in the Hyles cult! I know many who went to HAC/FBCH from my home church who didn't swallow the kool-aid, but that went there, did their studies and got out and into the ministry and are doing wonderful jobs. They kept their eyes on Jesus instead of Hyles. It wasn't easy for them, and they all voiced displeasure with what was going on. Many received demerits, punishment, etc. because of their willingness to point out things that were wrong. But, they went where the Lord told them to go. I don't understand why the Lord would send anyone to HAC/FBCH, but my ways aren't his ways. I'm thankful for those that stood with the Lord and against Hyles and Schaap in spite of what they would receive in the long run. Still, I'm thankful that the era of JH and JS are over and that they have a good pastor now. I just pray that the people's eyes have started to open so that they can see what their "god" was like.

Sorry Joe, but never could stand that dude, and that's not an attempt to defend Hyles from some of the stuff he brought up. He seemed to be always consigning folk to hell as if he knows who is gonna be there because he holds the keys. Little too salty for my taste in his crotchety writing style too. And it's been well over 15 years since I've read his stuff, but isn't he one of those die-hard house-church types?

Not really sure what he is/was. I just liked the fact that he called out some of these idiots! He wasn't afraid to do it and wouldn't pussy foot around about saying what he had on his mind! I like that kind of a person. They might not always say the right thing, but at least they're honest about how they feel. Better than anything I ever got with JH or Schaap! :)

lol, my soulwinning partner would've been right up your alley! He passed away several years ago and I still miss him. He was a "I just tell it like I see it" kinda guy too. For instance, he told my current pastor (right in front of me, the deacon who he liked) that "I don't like you, but the Bible says I have to love you, so I will." lol

Yes, looks like Van Nattan/Balaam/Blessed Quietness got to the point where he couldn't stand any existing churches, so he went whole hog "house church." Check out his Jackboot Baptist page if you want to see Stevo dump on Baptist Briders, Jack, Billy, Jerry, John Mac Arthur, BJU, TTU, Hyles-Anderson and everything/everybody else. Makes you want to say "Come on Stevo, tell us what you really think!" I didn't know he had gone on to that blessedly quiet house church in the sky - that explains why there are no new updates on his web site.

"I have very little truck with these jackboot jerks I am now associated with. But, I am a bit slow on the draw I think. All over the USA, the UK, Australia, and the world people are stepping out of the Fundamental Baptist loonie bins and starting home churches. Dr. J. Vernon McGee said, during the 1970s, that the early church started in the homes, and he thought that the local church, just before the return of Christ, would be back in the homes. . . . Satan started sending his imps to Bible College-- not Evangelical or Liberal colleges, but Satan sent his devils in young men who were unsaved to Fundamental Baptist colleges like Tennessee Temple, Bob Jones U, BIOLA, Hyles Anderson, etc. These men played the game and graduated and come highly recommended by the college. They get into local churches, and they go to work dumbing down the saints by avoiding exposition of the Word of God, while they roar and rage about "Baptist Standards" and tithing. They build numbers, become in demand, and rise to high places where they influence many other pastors. They are filthy in their personal lives, and they are brutes. They are Satan's helpers."

Yeah, not to be disrespectful, but I quit digging through his site because he struck me too much as a bitter crank.

Thankfully one doesn't have to agree on every point to like someone! I must admit, there are some strange ideas running around out there in Christendom, but, I don't have to be a part of them! :) As my old pastor used to say, "Take the meat...leave the bone!"

I know quite a few of those...including David Cloud! :)

I don't think it's Steve Van Nattan that ALAYMAN meant had died--I think it was his soulwinning partner. I found Van Nattan on Facebook and he appears to have made several posts in the last few days.

(Looks like he was widowed two years ago, though.)

It appears he might have turned over the "Blessed Quietness" site to others, which may account for any lack of updates. Other of his sites (like the oriiginal Balaam's Ass) look like they've been repurposed for his piano business. It's hard to tell, though: judging by the Web design, he could have died around 1996 and no one would have noticed.

Not that I ever paid him much attention anyway. Van Nattan's always been a cranky "old man yells at cloud" stereotype.

My mistake - it's nice to know that the crusty old curmudgeon Steve is still with us. Unfortunately, by his harsh attacks on everything that moves, he detracts from the effectiveness of his critique of those who really deserve it, like Jack Hyles. He is an object lesson for all of us, to not destroy our credibility by following Van Nattan's example of having a totally negative critical spirit.

I agree - some things are best left to God's judgement. (I am speaking of a person's eternal destiny)

What's wrong Edwards? Can't speak for yourself? As I stated, I don't have to agree with everything the man said, nor do I...but I appreciate the fact that he had the balls to speak up against someone. You?

I really was not referring to you at all. When I read the statement of the speaker saying that someone was definitely in hell and someone mentioned they did not feel that was a wise thing to do I agreed with them. I have no idea what you mean when you say, " Can't speak for yourself?" However, if I offended you in some way I certainly apologize to you. May God's richest blessing be upon this day.

Not a problem...was just asking if you had something to say yourself since you posted other people's posts and nothing else. :) No apology necessary. Hope I didn't come across the wrong way. That's one of the problems of trying to communicate via the screen and keyboard.

I read the book by Glover in my younger more robust fighting fundamentalist apologist years. Glover used to post here frequently of course and seemed plenty intelligent and nice enough, but his book smacked of innuendo and speculation and was light on convincing evidence in my not so humble opinion. I'd like to read it again now just to see if my perspective has changed.
I noticed that many times in the book that he used lawyer-like techniques to sway people's opinion. There were some things that seemed pretty definite (it's been a while since I've read it), and some things that should have been easy to prove one way or the other.
