No, not the coyotes who bring them here. The companies that hire them when they get here.

I say bring the hammer down on them. Hard!

Big businesses, no argument from me.

But what about the farmers that have to pay cash because they can't afford American workers at minimum wages?

Are you willing to see produce prices skyrocket? If so, then your point is consistent and I say "good". You are being consistent.

I am saying that the anti-illegal alien narrative leaves out the main component that is at the root of the problem.

And you are right, we love our cheap meat and vegetables. At the same time, we hate that "they" didn't get a permit to work for half the minimum wage.  And yet, we can't work up much ire about those who are hiring and paying "them".

One party agitates their base with sob stories about Juan and Juanita (and the kids) while the other agitates their base with irritating stories about how J&J are taking food right out of American mouths. The truth is both parties like it this way. It keeps their base tied to them.

The guest worker program needs to be improved.

It also needs to be monitored and those workers expelled at the end of season.

And no concern about the companies that employ them?

I'm not sure what you mean.  The guest program is legal and so it's legal to hire them.

Now hiring illegal aliens is a different matter.  Employers need to fined/imprisoned.  Do that and stop all welfare to illegals and they have no reason to come here.  You won't need a wall.

Exactly! Probably cheaper too!

No argument from me. I would love to see the minimum wage raised nationally but I know the realistic outcome will cause more unemployment and higher prices, so I'm not opposed to small businesses, specifically farms, hire cheap labor, even under the table. I honestly don't know what the solution is.

I agree with you on the guest worker program?

What welfare benefits are illegals entitled to receive? I worked in Human Services for 28 years and illegals are only eligible for emergency medicals benefits which without they would die or be severely incapacitated.

The idea that the guest worker program = illegal immigration is absurd.

There is a marked difference in both the way they enter the country and the fact that they leave when their work is finished. H-2 programs

The employers are required to qualify.

This is quite different than people flooding across our borders, filling our schools and leeching off our welfare and healthcare system.

Agreed.  Sometimes, some posts just leave you speechless.

Yep. If it meant my kids be smuggled illegally into America than be forced into a Mexican drug cartel or be murdered, yeah, I would be an illegal myself.

What about the father who robs a bank to pay his child's medical bills or the single mom who sells herself to pay for food, the teen who breaks into houses to pay for college. We understand why they do it but its still a crime.

What if I steal from the rich to buy school supplies for the poor? What if I steal cars from the wealthy so poor folks can get to work. Noble cause but still a crime and still wrong. With 7 billion people in the world we can not just open up the borders to just anyone.

We have a legal system for those who seek to come here.

Obviously many think that is illegal.

Because all of Mexico is uninhabitable? Naaahhh... they come here illegally because they get free stuff and can commit crimes without sitting in a Mexican prison.  They are not too afraid of the thugs to help them come across, into the US.

I don't care if it is considered a crime or not. Protecting someone, specifically a child is something I would break the law for.

I'm not saying we need to open borders to "just anyone" and the "legal system" time for refugee status is to a limited number of spots available each year and up to an 18-month process. Sometimes that timeline is a realistic life-and-death factor.

I don't care what anyone says and I don't care if I am wrong in this area. Why can't we try to legitimitize those who are already here (with similar refugee vetting processes, of course) rather than to split up families and ship people back into danger?

Wow! I am so glad you know the motive of every single Mexican refugee in the US! Why aren't you making big bucks working a key position with ICE?

You assigned a motive to every single Mexican refugee... why can't I?
