How IFB's can reach and keep the 30 and under generation....

I've heard the saying "Keep the main thing the main thing, and the main thing is soul winning"...and while I agree with the heart of that statement (Lk. 19:10) I propose an amendation... "Keep the main thing the main thing, and the main thing is doctrine" because what's the point of evangelizing if we have the wrong message? What's the point in discipling if we're teaching false doctrine? Doctrine is the glue that holds everything together. Baptists aren't the only group leading people to Jesus... and if soul winning is the main thing, then why not go over and join the group with bigger rallies and more converts? Doctrine. It's the key.

No. No. No. No. No. No.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. - 1 Cor 13:1-3

I love you, love you, love you....smooch....smooch.
Now, do as you please because God loves everyone and will send no one to hell.
There isn't a hell...God loves you.

I hope someone will actually opine on the point of the young man's blog post.

No problem with scripture, just your faulty hermeneutic and lack of context. Remember, Satan quoted scripture as well.
    As your usual obtuse self....you didn't.  ;)

I think this article is right on. The X-Generation as I believe we are called have grown up knowing nothing but technology. We see how it can be effective in reaching people.

I use technology in a kids ministry and many people shy away from it. I simply ask them, "How else is the church suppose to compete with video games, movies, tv, ipads, ipods, and the other millions of gadgets out there?" Why not use those same gadgets in the church to teach the Bible.

I think many times we forgot what Paul said in I Corinthians:

And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some

I think Paul understood that there are many fish in the sea and you have to use different types of bait to catch them all.

I think one of the biggest challanges we face is the fact that pastors and churches are not willing/or uneasy to about change. Too many times we something different is brought to them the automatic response is to shut it down because we are so use to change being a bad thing. Change can be/is good in certain things. Yes keep your doctrine, Yes keep your standards, Yes keep your KJV Bible. But be like Paul and make the changes necessary to be more effective to those around you.

Just my two cents

Paul's teaching is pretty clear in that passage. You can have truth 100% nailed. You can have all the doctrine right in the world. You can't have all the knowledge of the angels. You can be able to quote the entire Bible memory and exegete every passage faithfully...

...but if you don't love people, all that other stuff is worthless.

So Paul is pretty clear...the "main thing" is not doctrine; it is love.

That faulty conclusion helped ruin the mainline denominations in the 1960's.
Paul admonished to speak the truth in love.

What came first the chicken or the egg?

Why don't you explain what Paul was saying in that passage?

Ephesians 4:15 and I Cor. 13 are equally inspired, unless you're SC.
One without the other is like a one winged airplane.

Obtuse, thy name REALLY is rsc2a....

So is Gen 50:1. What's your point?

(Or is your point that you cannot explain what Paul was saying in 1 Cor 13:1-3?)

Speak the truth in love.
he did not draw the dagger out of his belly...
Jesus wept.

You're obtuse.
That last statement wasn't in the Bible, but it's still true!

I'd like to hear what some in the Baptist rank and file think of the blog post referenced. Frag, Alayman, etc....

Last time I'll ask, then I'll just assume that you are avoiding the answer because these are just some other verses that we ignore because we don't like what they say...

Why don't you explain what Paul was saying in that passage?

You get "speak the truth in love" from I Corinthians 13?  ??  I get "love," in its verb form, from that passage.  I do see, "though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels," but I don't see where the main point is speaking the truth in love.

I get speak the truth in love from Ephesians 4....because that's where it is.... :)
rsc2a is purposely missing the point.....which in reality is not missing the point, I guess.

My point is that love without truth OR truth without love make for incomplete Christianity.

I didn't miss the point. Here...I'll repeat it:

The guy in the link you posted...he explicitly stated that the "main thing" is doctrine. He's wrong.
