You would get campused. At 100, expulsion.

Was campused once for a day, but just failed to get an activity report turned in and corrected.
75 or 100....no idea, I just jumped up to Suspension/Expulsion....saved time.

75 - 2 day suspension
100 - 3 day suspension
125 - expulsion suspended (Depending on who you are and what you did)
125 (again) - expulsion and repeat year

The demerit system from the beginning was based on the "HOW I ACT" Anagram each letter represented a rule.
H - Hullabaloo
O - Out of Order
W - Work Not In
I - Intentional Disobedience
A - Attitude
C - Conduct
T - Talking
At 15 Demerits a notice was sent to parents
25 Swats
50 Swats
75 Swats
100 Swats with a 3 day suspension
125 Expulsion
All Swats were 3 strokes with a Paddle
The Homework not in stopped being demerits and turned into "Bogeys"
3 Bogeys got you an hour of detention in the Bogey Room
Each set of 3 Bogeys got an additional day.

We worked diligently to discover any loopholes and certain students would even offer their services to others for a nominal favor to help them find a way out of a rulebook jam. We still got swats, and lots of them. We really didn't need to reach a demerit milestone. GW prided himself in his ability to inflict lasting memories. He also had a habit of bruising the chest of students whenever he had the whim. TV's swats were laughable. Lining up the whole class for swats was not uncommon. DB's were strong enough to send a message but he did not take pride in how hard he could hit. Of course, there was FM with his annual tantrum of picking a student up out of his chair and tossing him into the locker.... :

Did a system like this draw young people to the leadership & what they believed or drive them away.
Did it make young people better or bitter.
Any thoughts? Has it changed any?

It was in chapel. Dr. Evans had made his announcements and Dr. Jorgenson stood to make his announcements. On this day it was punishment day. It was on this day that Dr. James Jorgenson would read off the names of the students that had accumulated 50 demerits and were to be punished. Dr. Jorgenson read off the list off students to be campused. Then he said, "The following student is suspended: 'Jim Alter'." He read the dates that Jim was suspended and he sat down. Now if you had happened to be looking at Dr. Evans when Dr. Jorgenson announced Jim's suspension you could tell that the good college president was suddenly very uncomfortable.
With a nervousness not normally seen by the good Dr. Evans, he walked to the microphone and announced, "The special music today is by Jim Alter."
It was a funny moment.
