Can you imagine my utter shock and dismay the first time I hear a kid ask, "Who was the Fonz?"
i didn;t want to say it.... but i didn;t know who the "fonz" was when i was younger. ... .... and never even heard the name until i saw "pulp fiction" and samuel jackson said "we are all going to be like little fonzies.... we are gonna be cool.... " ... but i still didn;t put it all together as to who the fonz was ("henry winkler")... until i saw the movie "water boy"... and was told the timid football coach was the guy who played fonzie... ....i have still never seen "happy days"... but i did look up the name and see a picture of winkler in the leather motorcycle jacket as "the fonz"... night and day difference from the part he played in water boy... ...

In the beginning of the series he was just a thug everyone feared, but the chicks really dig a bad boy. Had few lines and was just a kinda backdrop to the nerdy triad, Richie, Potsie and Ralph. As the series wore on, and the character grew in popularity, the character developed into an almost superhero status taking up for the underdog.

In the episode in which the Happy Days gang goes to Hollywood, Fonzie's rival is a California cool kid who challenges him to make a waterski jump over a captured shark. The series' ratings declined gradually after that. And now when any person or group makes any move that irreparably derails a plan or knocks one off one's pedestal, they are said to have 'jumped the shark.'

When Trump attacked McCain during the 2016 campaign, big names in the MSM said that he had "jumped the shark," thinking his campaign was over.*

But he hadn't .

Happy Days also popularized the term "nerd," which means this video being included on the Windows 95 CD-ROM made it go full circle, considering Weezer's image at the time.
