I am interested in your thoughts on cinnabon cereals.

How nutritius and can I eat a lot of this and not be the fat.

Not nutritious and no.

Top, I saw a commercial by Aspen weight loss clinic today. I heard they use some form of legal speed. Know anything about that stuff? And what's the skinny on the metabolism pills?

Top, Have you read anything on wheatgrass?  I just went to the Health food store and we are on the caplets..........I can't get the juice down!!

My husband and I were discussing supplements this morning.  He has taken a variety of supplements over the span of a decade and he is really tired of researchers touting a specific supplement....until further research condemns the same.

My doctor says vitamins are not needed in our diet............I ask him if he attended the nutrition class in college for his degree he looked at me and said NO! I said well be careful the pharmaceuticals you push pay your salary.......... :(

Needless to say I believe in fresh foods and fruits, plus vitamins!!!!!!!

A nutrition course was required when my husband was in med school.  The instructor was morbidly obese.

I don't know about Aspen, but I know that metabolism pills are a joke, imho.  To boost your metabolism...stay active and eat 5-6 meals throughout the day.

Wheatgrass is very good for you!  I use to take it, but not lately.  I think it's also known as "locust", maybe John the Baptist ate this stuff?? You can always mix it in with other juices or your favorite super shake.

Well, your doctor is technically right. If you eat healthy whole foods, you'll be alright. From my educational nutrition book, the author recommends it to cover all vitamins in case you didn't get it in your daily diet, which makes sense to me.  Better to be safe than sorry.

Sherry, in response to your question you sent me via pm...

Continue to eat healthy as you are doing.  Maintain a high active lifestyle and weight yourself weekly.  Weighing includes: Same day, no clothes, early in the morning, after you  defecate/urinate, and use the SAME SCALE. If you do not see yourself losing 1 pound in a week, subtract 250 calories a day from your diet.

Keep in mind, losing 1-2 pounds per week is the healthy way to do it.  ;)

Top, would you recommend the HCG diet to anyone for quick weight loss?

I, my brother, my wife, her parents, and a few other friends and relatives have used it with great success. So has Dr. Bob Griffin.
I lost over 20 lbs. in one month, bringing me back to my athletic peak of several years ago. I have kept it off with a healthy, normal diet and regular exercise.

If it works, it works. Don't know too much about the ingredients so hopefully its safe.  I noticed it's pricey so, it may not be affordable for some.

My biggest concern would be once the client reaches his/her weight goal, will they continue to maintain that weight? Most people who lose a lot of weight tend to gain it back (75-90% in most cases).  To me this shows that people do not know what calories they need to have to maintain at their new weight.

BUT...hey, if it works for ya, go for it!

I want to start this thread to help or answer any questions about fitness and nutrition.  So, ask away!

I have certifications through ISSA in:

Fitness Trainer
Specialist in Exercise Therapy
Specialist in Fitness Nutrition

If you are 45, a former Marine and want to get in shape where would you start?

Right now, I do 30-40 pushups. 36 curls of about 45 lbs and walk about 1-2 miles every two days.  I mow grass, paint, etc. but nothing heavy.  I am 6 ft and weigh about 200 lbs.  I can not run because of shin splints.

The HCG diet is actually one of the cheapest, easiest, and most effective weight loss methods. No need for special meals or expensive books. You get a bottle of HCG drops that can cost as low as $20. Then, you simply follow the three phases and the food items and calorie limits indicated on the diet plan. If done right, one can lose an average of 0.5-2 lbs per day.
Just as Dr. Bob. I don't remember, but I think he lost about 100 lbs with the HCG diet.

Also, with the HCG diet, when you get off it, of course, you should resume a normal, health diet. However, the HCG diet seems to give you some grace by allowing your body to continue burning calories for days--even weeks--if you indulge for a bit.

For some odd reason, I prefer to sit on the couch, watch TV, and eat Cheez-its to running and lifting weights.  I can't figure out why.  Can you help me?

That whooshing sound above your head is not an airplane.

I'll have to look into it and get back to this when I can.

What do you think about P90x?

I need to bring up my pull-ups, and increase my 3-mile, but my wife would really like to start a workout plan with me and she'd like to do that with me.  I think if I started this with her, it would get me in better shape and probably help my number of pullups, but not help as much bringing my 3-mile time down.  The pullups/running time is more important to me than just exercising to get more fit.

Thoughts/advice?
