All Creatures Great and Small

I can only answer for duck hunters I actually know, which as I said, is a small circle in one little corner of Florida. I can’t tell you how duck hunters in California or Kansas or Canada behave. But what I do know is that hunting is a dying pastime in America and I’d assume Canada. In many parts of Europe, of course, it’s essentially an extinct activity due to strict gun laws and loss of open spaces. I can actually back up my rhetoric with data: https://cnr.ncsu.edu/news/2021/01/decline-hunting-conservation-funding/

I’m assuming you know that young people aren’t hunting in the 21st century because it’s difficult to handle a shotgun and a phone or game console at the same time. Plus, it’s not exactly “woke” to go out and kill your dinner. Someone might accuse you of being a bloodthirsty conservative Republican or something like that. 😉
Well, I know human nature, and that laws are made for the unrighteous, and locks are only for honest people. Armed with that knowledge I can safely say that limits are imposed because the vast majority engage in sport hunting for less than altruistic reasons.

Anyway, it seems our conversation has run its course.

I'll leave you with this hymn:

I sing the goodness of the Lord
That filled the earth with food.
He formed the creatures with His word
And then pronounced them good.

Lord how thy wonders are displayed
Where e're I turn my eye.
So I will pump them full of lead
And drop them from the sky!

Nope. The main reason limits are imposed is due to declining numbers of species. The reason for the decline in species is due to a loss of habitat. That’s nearly the entire point of most animal related non-profits in the state. In particular, that’s probably 99% of what Ducks Unlimited does. They attempt to purchase new wetlands and restore former wetlands that got turned into farm fields or golf courses or parking lots or whatever. They don’t just do this in the U.S., they stretch from Canada to Mexico. They’re mainly working with older folks to get land under a conservation protection in their wills so it’ll be protected for the birds and future generations of hunters.

You might be intelligent in a lot of areas, but you’re completely out of your element in this discussion. Ironically, the truth is the opposite of your hypothesis. If you’d like to tackle another subject, we can start discussing law. I know a little bit about that, too. 😉

I can see where you might conclude that I was referring to you personally with that, but I wasn't. I was referring to the portrait you drew of the femme tueuse d'animaux in your tirade about ladylikeness. Knowing your penchant for making everything about you, I probably could have been more circumspect in my wording, but I've grown weary of having to walk on eggshells around you.

I watched Xena Warrior Princess when UPN was a thing. That's where I learned the title.

You must be disappointed that I'm not engaged in a conspiracy with a ghost from your past intimidated by the power of your Feminism to stalk and waylay you from the shadows. That would be more interesting and dramatic. You'll just have to accept the fact that our encounter was completely by chance...untill you come to the realization of the truth of Calvinism, then you could presume our encounter was divinely appointed, but for other than sinister reasons.

There's the explanation. Accept it or reject it. I care not.
either way... whether my theory of why you said it is right.... or whether you are telling the truth about how you came about to use that phrase in that particular way here - it shows you have both an arrogant bias and also a chip on your shoulder where women are concerned.. especially when they can out do you in something........ what happened? - did some little girl out run you on the track in grade school p.e.?... ...beat you in a rock throwing fight?........ i can see them continually beaning you in the head while you missed them by miles....... i can also see you trying to claim you let them win on purpose coz they were girls.... then going home to seethe and sulk about it later......

i reject the false teachings of calvinism just as i reject the tendencies of people like you to pull it out of their pocket when it suits them - then stuff it back in again when they see it isn;t working........ well unfortunately for you it is not working this time... equal in misfortune is the fact you are too stupid or too arrogant to see it........ every time you start talking about women on these forums you start coming across like that angry little boy seething and sulking in his room.... .and no... you can;t blame that on anything divinely appointed .... that;s all on you.....

there;s my explanation... accept it or not... ..let the whole thing go and forget it or not... . but i know you won;t forget it because you always have to prove yourself right.... . right?.... ......see you in the next segment.....

I think we’re required to do the same with reporting. Ekk lumps all hunters together, but the truth is hunters are a diverse group. I’ve only been pig hunting once in my life, so I can’t speak for them, but the state is very supportive of boar hunting because they are invasive and tearing up everything from golf courses to state forests. I’m not a land hunter, so it’s just not my thing. Same with deer hunting. Years ago I went a couple times with a friend. We never saw a deer and I found it boring, so it’s not my thing. Again, I just prefer hunting on the water. However, although I can’t necessarily speak for guys who hunt other species, the ones I’ve had conversations with have always given me the impression that they mainly enjoyed getting in nature and the anticipation of getting the “big buck” or the “fat boar.” Unless a guy is wealthy with a lot of land, nearly everyone is hunting state WMAs and they’re usually lucky if they get one deer a season. Maybe in other states the success rate is higher, but I don’t think in Florida it is. And on public lands, it’s illegal to put out bait or feeders, so that’s why it’s so difficult. On private property where they have hunting clubs and leases, it’s not as strict.
there are a lot of archery hunters here who hunt from tree stands... . they just sit up in a tree and wait for a wild hog to come by.... ..they are almost all of them compound bow hunters and use bait pretty heavily... .. so much so you can usually tell when and where they were hunting by the smell of the bait they left behind rotting.... ..we have even seen bait feeders left hanging in trees and set to timers intended to bring the hogs in at the same time every day.... .... ....my dads grandfather taught him that kind of hunting was an ambush not a hunt... and then he in turn taught me the same thing.... so we don;t use bait or the hunt from a tree method at all - but rather rely on spot and stalk skills to close in on a wild hog.... and careful use of terrain to pick the safest point to shoot from...... ...all that is actually best done with traditional archery methods which are a lot less clunky and noisy than compound bows.... ..... but of course an avid compound bow archer would deny all that and say it;s just the opposite.....

here the dog and knife hunters bring in more wild hogs than hunters by other methods...... ....you just can;t beat a dogs nose for finding where the game are..... but the law is pretty strict on not allowing a hunter using a dog to also use a bow and arrow to kill the hog.... the hunter using dogs must go in a kill the pig with a knife.... that has led to quite a few injuries to hunters... also injuries to dogs as they try to hold the pig until the hunter gets there..... ..almost every dog and knife hunter has lost dogs to wild pigs.... people here have gotten to accustom to that they are actually surprised to learn it;s illegal in most states..... it;s a traditional native hawaii thing here... so not much chance it will ever be outlawed....

I bet trying to gut one of those pigs with a knife gets the adrenaline going. Maybe twenty years ago I would have tried something like that, but not now. My reflexes are probably a little too slow these days.

it;s very intense.... injuries are common but injuries of the dogs are even more common... . i never wanted to go with them .... ... here in hawaii most dog and knife hunters make their knives out of old car springs.. ...they are heavy are anywhere from 12 to 18 inches long..... ..they say no commerical made knife is strong enough... .... ... we always know where they are due to the dogs barking and hunters yelling at them.. ..... and that;s one reason they are more frequently targeted by the anti-hunting groups on the island.... .... if you watch some of the videos of hawaiian pig hunts on youtube you can see how crazy it gets...
