Your Most Interesting Door Knocking Experiences

At the church I grew up in I remember bus calling in a rather affluent neighborhood. I knocked on the door and a German Shepherd bounded to the door and enthusiastically tore the curtains out of the window of the door. Thankfully the lady of the house was more upset with the dog than with me. I did find out the curtains which now were shredded had been brand new.

That's when you tell'em you're from the Kingdom Hall.

I was going door-to-door with one of my deacons & a lady answers to door of a very nice house which was expensively decorated on the inside. We stood at the front door step & she allowed me to present the gospel. When I asked if she would like to trust the Lord as her Savior she said, "NO."

She then explained that she was an exotic dancer, that she was making crazy money & that if she trusted Jesus as Savior then she knew that she would have to say goodbye to that life. She smiled and closed the door.

I probably met her friend.

I knocked on the door and met a girl who had the same type reaction.  Her mother worked at a whore house and made crazy money.

A preacher friend knew that I knocked on X-# of doors per week & said he'd like to go with me for a day. We knocked on a door & a beautiful young college age lady who was at the house alone at the time & who was visiting from some state out west, answered the door & invited us in to visit about my church. I went through the gospel & she trusted Christ as Savior. As we walked away the other preacher, who's wife was not very attractive, said, "Well, she was easy to look at."

Made me laugh.

This technically is not a door knocking experience but close enough IMHO.  My wife while a student at HAC was a bus worker in South Chicago. She had attended a Catholic girls high school outside of Philadelphia. One Saturday while bus calling she sees a nun across the street that had taught her in high school. She went across the street to say hello. The nun was living in a retirement home for nuns in Chicago. She asked my wife what she was doing in Chicago. She explained that she was inviting kids to Sunday School for FBCH. Her former teacher said I see you have gone apostate.

Wow!  Thanks for sharing.

I took a gentleman knocking with me, who I'd known for several years.

We knocked on the door of a very well known church musician, who played organ for 3 churches on Sunday.

As is my custom, I let the person tell me what they believe and practice, before going into the Gospel, like a physician listening to a patient detail potential cause and effect.
This man had no problem explaining that he was a jazz musician, played on the Army band, and wasn't a believer, though he played in churches.  It was a gig to him.
He was in his 70's, and a famous jazz musician his age had just passed away that week.
I asked if he knew him.
Of course!
He played with him for 20 years.

This (soon to be former) snake detailed how he had spent 50 years introducing jazz  techniques to the church music.
He said that there were typically 3 categories of response to his artistic interpolation...
1. The music minister noticed, and corrected him.
2. The mm didn't notice at all.
3. The mm liked the innovation, and adapted to it.

I was appalled at what this serpent was telling me.

But , God knew that the death of his friend was weighing heavily on him, reminding him of how near the Christless eternity he was facing was to him.

He was gladly saved, acknowledging that he'd been wrong against God for fiddling with His music.

The next day, was Sunday, and my calling partner came forward for Baptism.
I asked about salvation , of course, and he testified that he was saved the day before.

What?!?

I was saved as you led the musician to the Lord.

Huh?

Turns out this vet thought that we were conservatives fighting liberalism, and coming from a politically active family , he jumped on board, even taking an early out from the USN, to attend HAC.

That night, he saw and heard the pure Gospel, and was saved.

We speak weekly, though he lives 12 hours away, mostly online, but I've been to see him several times.

A partner and I went to a new apt building, figured a way in, (we all know that story)...
And proceeded to the top floor to begin a 6 month journey of knocking out that building.

First door was answered by a lady in her late 30's or so.
She was a heroin junkie.
Her husband was an elder at the local Mennonite Church, and preached once every 4 weeks, and the heartbreak of his life was his unregenerated wife and her sin.
They had come out of a mess that is hard to even relay to you.
She had a 17 year old daughter, with an 8 year old son....she'd been prostituted out at that age, to pay for drugs.
She was away, in a home, because the husband wanted to get her out of that he'll on Earth, so there were to boys to play with, while I deferred to my former heroin dealer/junkie partner to take this one, for obvious reasons.
I played soccer, never heard a word of my partners witness, but saw them pray, and she appeared to be very thoughtful, as we left.

2 years later

We were looking for another building, having outgrown our first, and the Mennonite building was in the center of our area.
We approached them about renting in the afternoon, and they called a council meeting, which we attended.

There sat a man which I hadn't met, but I recognized his wife...
She was faithfully by his side, every week, the boys were with her, and the church knew why.

They gladly helped us to reach that area, for several years, because they knew what God would do through those efforts.

We'll, this Yankee is gonna go shout for a while, now.

Another winner.  Thanks again.

But hold back now for awhile as we are all feeling backslide.  Glory!

As I read these testimonies I can't help but wonder how many others are waiting for someone to knock on their door.  It is very convicting.
