Why do American marriages fail?

I know many couples who have been married for more than fifty years.  My own grandparents were married for nearly 65 years.  Yet, many of the children of these long-married couples have been divorced.  WHY?  Why is divorce much more prevalent now?

My husband and I were reared in homes where the parents were married multiple decades until death.  That is a gift we received from our dear parents and one which we have passed on to our children with the hope they will cherish the gift as well.

Because folks don't understand that being married and staying married is a job and you have to work hard at it to make it last.

Most can't even stay in the same Church their whole life anymore; they end up leaving over some silly detail.
You're seriously equating a good, long-lasting marriage with staying in the same local church assembly your whole life?

We're the bride of Christ, not the bride of a local church.

By the way, the good Lord has blessed us with almost 30 years of marriage, I knew my wife for 6 months before we got married, and I have NOT stayed in the same "church" all my life.

I was referring to commitment during ups and downs ....
....but you likened it to commitment in marriage.

Different things.  You've just recently left a local church not too long ago, didn't you?

You have a history of not even being able to commit yourself to one forum name.  You're definitely not one to be talking about any type of commitment.

And, as time presses on, you will see the trolling is done. Takes time for that to be believed ....
And until that time, you should carefully choose what you comment on.

Best thing for you to do is to find a forum where no one knows your highly unstable and sometimes morbid posting history.

When you become the moderator of this forum then you can determine what people comment on, until then, go find some fascist third world nation to become supreme potenatate of.

Tell you what, when YOU become moderator of this forum, you can determine how I choose to comment, mmmkay?

I would say another reason is the tremendous lack of character being taught to young people. Parents want to give there kids everything on a silver platter and the kids expect it. Those same kids grow up and get married and don't have a clue on how to do anything for themselves, so they will throw a temper tantrum and run back to mommy the first time they don't get their way.

Thank God that He looks at our past and rightly condemns us instead of offering grace...  ::)

Learn simple communications skills, mmmkay?  I wasn't commenting on what you say, but rather your controlling and obssessed personality.

Slightly modified as it pertains to the topic.  ;)

What a hypocritical goofball.  In an effort to intimidate and bully, you told Timothy to watch what he posts. I told you, in effect, to go pee up a rope.  There's no irony there, just plain-spoken and forthright good advice for the Little Mussolini on the other end of the keyboard.

It's no surprise to me that my comment went right over your head.

It's very simple.............choice,dedication, love, respect, commitment to each other. etc!!

Because more people today treat marriage as little more than a legal contract for tax purposes, and think of marriage from the perspective of what they can get out of it rather than what they can give.

Been happily married for almost 22 years. Still waiting for the honeymoon to end.
