On the HAC FFF we read quite often about the man worship that some feel took place at HAC or in the IFB movement.  I know that many will say that Jack Hyles encouraged this.  But beyond Hyles himself, who was it that pushed this practice?

Ray Young comes to mind first.

Whoever did it? Had and still have willing sycophants who can't or are too lazy to think for themselves.

EVERY time you asked his advice, he taught, or spoke, he would always say: Bro. Hyles tells us, Bro. Hyle's said, Bro. Hyles does it this way, etc, ad nauseum....

I know this one was before some of your "times" but Joe Combs is another one.

Davey boy was pretty good at it when he was the church Ed lecturer. which means 44 points on whatever the subject was for the day.

Are you talking about RY or Bob Gray?

Carl Laurent...good man but bought in to everything.

An easier list may be "who warned of it?"

It made perfect sense to me. Saved less than three years out of a Catholic background, I believed that certain ?saints?rose above the rest of us. Throw in Jack?s big numbers, and I was hooked.

Easier as in I can't think of anybody...

Well, Jeff Owens did tell us that loyalty was not to a man; it was to the Word of God. Together, then, we shared a loyalty to the Word of God and that let us work in harmony. But even he never warned against the cult of personality there. And he and Bill Grady were the two most independent men there during my time. Grady sure didn't; he wanted his own Gradyites anyway.

Haha.
I've been skimming other threads, and honestly racking my brain trying to remember anyone at all who warned of this.

I thought of one, but he no longer was  at HAC when i enrolled, so he doesn't count.

I'm a few years behind you, so it still amazes me that you had to actually sit under his teaching/preaching.  :(

Bink Spisak warned some of us against the cult mentality.  Personally,  I thought he was just a rebel, so I did not listen.'

He did not exactly fit the mold of the other staff members.

Many of the HAC graduates (I attended a few HAC churches, and the worship from afar was always there)

Bob Gray, TX
Tom Neal
Jack Trieber
Paul Chappel

It's hard to imagine a guy named "Bink" being a rebel.
