This guy is a pastor?

I know that most of you would not have tried to listen to the entire sermon which is on youtube and I don't blame you. He said, among other things, that when he pastorefor 9 years, about 30 years ago, that a state senator said, "Bro. Smith, Pine Bluff is not the same since you came here and will not be the same when you leave." :
Larry Smith.

This is a stretch but I can imagine him entering heaven through the pearly gates and trying to present his credentials. He would say , "I am Larry Smith and I am looking for the VIP room!"

Yet, despite his character flaws, God loves him.

Hmmm.........

You are exactly correct and I apologize.

He had a very successful business in Indiana and certainly mentored some church men in business.

I never found him to be arrogant or rude - at least not to me in my time there.

I found others to be rude and arrogant to em that others have praised as loving and kind.

I think it can sometimes be about personalities too.

Since leaving FBC, I have personally come to find the calling down of people in a service to be disgusting and would never attend a church where that went on. However, that was common at Hammond when I was there, and seems to still happen. It seems to be acceptable by the people that go there and that is their choice.

To me I think the issue is, first off, he should have addressed it differently. making a big stink about somebody talking while he is preaching?, come on, seriously? Is he that self-absorbed to believe that everyone is going to be all attentive to every syllable he speaks. Nobody ever loses attention when he speaks? stupid.
Peter says in chapter 5:2 Be shepherds of God

As much as LS annoys me, I must confess he confuses me with one thing.  I have watched from the 2nd row in the old auditorium hundreds of times, as LS witnessed to someone at the altar.
I have watched as they stood up, with tears running fown their cheeks  (the visitor), and slowly walked to the seat to wait for their name to be read.  I watched as they listened carefully to their decision slip, nodded after, affirming, and then walked to the baptistry...on their own, with no 'coaching' from LS.  These were all perfect strangers to LS.
I sat right behind them, many times, in between the two, and could see both of their faces. LS never said a word to them after they got up from the altar.  The visitor was always grateful, teary, meditative...
None of this fits with anything else that I've seen from him...

I think he is caring man that lacks in how to express it. It is a personality issue rather than a heart issue.

Just point out where I am incorrect, and I will change it.  Mrs. Marty?

Your more IFB that you let on. Obsessing on one man's immorality while dismissing your own.

Before I would accuse another person of being immoral, I would certainly want to make sure I had a specific charge and ask someone with impeccable knowledge of same, if it was true.  Obviously, you have done neither and have no idea what you are speaking of.  I believe the Bible says something about bearing false witness?  You just aren't very smart are you?  :). Thanks for playing. I will respond further, only if you come up with something intelligent to say.

What's with the personal vendetta?

Php 2:3  Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
Pro 17:19  He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.

Exactly!

I'm not defending the obviously wrong "I hope God..." junk.  But what's with the shift in topics to try hijacking a thread in order to accomplish an apparent personal vendetta?

If the new pastor at HFBC wants to set that church on a better path when he gets there this month he will tell the church that kind of behavior from the pulpit and the "amening" and "c'mon'ing" from the peanut gallery is wrong and will not be tolerated in the future.
