Home from HAC.
Evangelist today.

A "real" evangelist or a pastor buddy?
So an evangelist should be someone you cannot stand?

Now that's an interesting perspective.

I'm guessing it would depend on WHY you can't stand him.

Regardless, just give the name of whoever is there.  I want to find out if he was happy with your love offering and where you took him to buy him a suit.

Several years ago, a pastor in the area asked me to house an evangelist while he preached a revival for him.
. While he stayed with us I got to know him and had him preach for us one Wednesday night. I liked his preaching and we struck up a relationship. I had him come back for a Sunday. This year I asked him to come back Sunday through Wednesday. During this time we have become good friends. Usually when an evangelist comes to preach the preacher spends time with the Evangelist and they become friends. So according to many people's philosophy, when that happens that evangelist should no longer preach for them.  Now they are friends, so that automatically disqualifies that evangelist from ever preaching there again.

I don't believe that was ever taught in Church Ed, so it must be fake news.

But if the relationship makes him compromise his message,  that's a different issue.

You wouldn't want that, would you?

No, but the only way to avoid a friendship from happening is the have a different evangelist every year, and while he is at your church, spend absolutely no time with him.

There are a lot of underused evangelists.  Spread the wealth!  And why spend time with him?  He's out door-knocking and street preaching!  You hanging around will just "hinder the spirit"!  LOL!

"Thank you, God bless you, for being a friend." Anybody remember that one?

I get that every time I change a bedpan.

They messed up my order.

Someone will pay.
