Chapel was a big part of life at HAC.  HAC staff, FBCH staff, or a visiting preacher filled the pulpit on a daily basis.  Some were great; others, not so much.  Turn back your mind's clock and tell us about those who you enjoyed, as well as those you were not so enjoyable.

*As always, one preacher per post.

Mark Turner: He was like a shock jock. ???

Yes, but isn't repetition the key to learning, my esteemed alter-ego?

Normally true, but rehashing HAC preachers increases my need of meds.

BTW, Mark has a nice home for you in Palm Springs when you're ready.

John R Rice - This was the only time I ever heard him preach in person.  He was very weak and had to sit down a couple of times before he could continue.  I know he was but a shell of what he once was, but I'm glad I was able to see and hear him.

Carl Laurent - I believe he was a good man who truly loved the Lord.  His preaching was a bit bizarre and I cringed every time he walked out on the platform.

Johnny Pope - I loved his mastery of the English language when he preached.  He was always a favorite of HAC students.

Tom Williams - Most of us had never heard of Tom Williams.  Dr. Hyles met him when he was preaching our of state.  He preached his testimony sermon the first time he was at HAC.  There wasn't a dry eye in the building.

Bill Rice.

His sermon "Don't Be a Morning Glory" is one of the most helpful I have ever heard.

Jim Jorgenson was the puzzle to me. Was a graduate of Princeton so he had some intelligence. He would start preaching and then somehow would finish with either a recent Hyles sermon or somebody who had just been to the college.

The one sermon I remember was Joe Boyd preaching against Billy Graham and masturbation in the same sermon.

Yes, I have said this before:

I have never met a convert of John R. Rice, Lee Roberson, Bob Jones Sr., Jr., or the 3rd, Jerry Falwell, Jack Schaap,  Bob Gray (either one), Curtis Hudson, or Joe Boyd.

I have met three converts of Billy Graham (including myself) who were living for God.

You do the math.

At the time, I loved hearing from Lester Roloff and the girls he brought to sing and testify about their lives being changed.

I still remember some of the songs they sang like "I've a roof up above me.  I've a good place to sleep.  There's food on the table and shoes on my feet.  You gave me your love, Lord, and a fine family.  Thank you, Lord, for your blessings on me."

Loved to hear them sing scriptures, as well.  It was just acapella, and it was beautiful.

I don't remember very many visiting preachers however i remember several that had an impact
Keith Adams preached once and his zeal and speaking ability were notable but I don't remember what he spoke on.

This was actually at church but hearing RG Lee preach Payday Someday was quite the experience.

Not long after RG Lee preached at FBC, he went to Heaven.  Bro Hyles had a part in his funeral service at the historic and Souther Baptist church, Bellevue Baptist in Memphis, TN which was then pastored by Adrian Rogers.  I've always wondered how Bellevue people and Pastor Rogers reacted to Bro Hyles' remarks, realizing that he once had been a Southern Baptist.

Adrian Roger's Radio Program "Love Worth Finding" is broadcast on FBC's Radio Station at 4:00PM Daily.

I never heard him in person; I wish I had.

I had met a pastor at Bible Baptist Church in Shiremanstown, PA that was led to Christ by Lee Robertson, I knew a woman in Southgate, Michigan that was saved after reading Rice's What Must I do to be Saved track, the assistant pastor at New Life Baptist Church in New Cumberland, PA was saved after watching Falwell on the Old Time Gospel Hour.

I also was always amused when I was at FBCH that Jim Vineyard was saved after watching Graham, Ray Young was saved after watching Billy Graham and Johnny Pope was saved after watching Graham.

It would be hard to argue that Graham's ministry has had a much more far reaching impact than any of the men you mentioned.

Keith Adams was one of my roommates at Baptist City my freshman year. He posted for a short time on one of the early forums. I would say around 2001.
