We all have to make a living and work and have some type of job. Why is it; If you are a farmer, factory worker, truck driver, etc. it is just a job. But, if you are a cop, correctional officer, military, etc. you are serving?

Probably because of the low pay and risk factor.

Copied pic did not work.

Probably because of the low pay and risk factor.

And as long as we are on this subject: Why is it that we work and doctors and lawyers only practice? They practice medicine or practice law.

From a military perspective, if you are asking that question you will never understand the answer.

Also, military, police, (and may I add Firemen), and correctional officers can and are expected to sacrifice their lives so that others can live in peace.  No farmer, truck driver or IT specialist is required to do that.
911 Comes to mind, watching the  firemen and police go in the towers while everyone else was running out.

Still thinking about this.............yesterday we had a retired missionary couple over for dinner. During the conversation they told of a friend who had received the Medal of Honor. I looked his story up on youtube and found that many of the MOH stories are there. I watched 4 of them.

It may be a learning experience to hear some of them relive their time at war.........big difference than just working, though they all say, "I was just doing my job."

Here is one example.

I had the opportunity to go to DC on Monday. Went to all the memorials and Arlington and watched the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. That was impressive! Had the chance to talk a little to some of the off duty guys who are on the honor guard.

One of the contractor's I used to work for here in NW Indiana had a relative and investor who went to college at USC. Two of his roommates in college were Tom Selleck and OJ Simpson. Selleck actually came here about 25 years ago to attend this guys wedding. This guys words about OJ were that he was a 'loose cannon' all through college. FWIW

I was able to go fishin 3 mornings & 2 night this week.  The bass were going crazy so I had to make sure they had as much fun as possible.  8)

Walleye is THE best tasting freshwater fish.  I'd love to take you up on that, as I have fished many a day & many a night for walleye.
