Bernie Carbo went to our church when I lived in Mobile, AL.  He was coaching a single A team in Pensacola at the time.

I don't think Carbo was on the Big Red Machine World Series teams of the mid '70s.  I remember him more with the Boston Red Sox.

DA Bears have agreed to terms with free-agent defensive end Lamarr Houston, formerly of the Raiders, on 5-year contract.

And the Bears will still march Jay Cutler onto the field to "lead" the team.  :)
Yeah.  For 6 more looooooong years.  And in the meantime, we still won't have a back up QB in the on-deck circle.
Oh for the leeks and garlics of Ditka!

"The Big Red Machine" as Bernie Carbo called it.

As a lad, that's when I became a fan!

Did he still have the 'fro?

Last 3 years of contract are team option buyout. They gave themselves the flexibility to possibly draft and begin to groom his replacement this year. Team covered themselves.

FYI, funny what Houston said. He said Trestman looks like The Riddler. Methinks he has a point!

For BALAAM....

DA Bears have agreed to terms with safety M.D. Jennings on 1-year contract.

Yeah, it was between me and Jennings. They decided to give him the contract because he was a little cheaper.

So what do you guys think about the instant replay review in MLB?

The critics have the internet, TIVO, DVR's, and etc.  So, it was just a matter of time.
Eventually they will streamline the process, and it will not add much time to the game.

My only thought is that other sports have a built in penalty system, that baseball doesn't have.  For instance, you commit an error, it only effects the back of your card, but not the game.  The runner reaches base successfully, whether it was an error or a hit.

After a while, I'll get used to it.
And we'll be discussing why the Redbirds are so bad these days, and the WhiteSox are so good.

I don't have a problem with the concept of replay.  They just need to streamline it.  In the NBA and NFL the officials have to go over to the monitor and watch the play themselves.  This normally takes quite a bit of time.  I like what they are doing in MLB with someone in another location looking at the play.  In theory this should speed things up.  I'm sure they need time to get the "bugs" out of the system.

So who will win the NCAA men's championship - UConn or Kentucky?

I think they should name a church after you. Anishanabe Baptist Church has a nice ring to it, don't you think?

I have no interest in the gambling but I love the locks and Sault Ste. Marie. I just happened to see Jonas M on the hac alumni page and it said he pastored the Anishanabe Baptist Church. I went to school with him before he had any gray at all. He was always jet black hair. I had a couple of relatives who worked for border patrol and immigration who were stationed there for a while.

We are starting Anishinabe Baptist Churches at all the Reservations in the UP, Lord willing.
