Tell us about the Christian concerts that you have personally attended.  Who was the artist/singer?  When was it?  Where was it?  You can tell us about the great ones as well as those that were not so great.

*As always, one concert per post.  Remember, it's all about the numbers!!

I remember my first Southern Gospel concert.  It was at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.  I had a friend who was a big SG fan.  He talked my wife and I into going.  It was the mid-90s.  Gold City was the group.  Wow!!  Tim Riley singing bass, Mark Trammell - baritone, Jonathan Wilburn - lead, and the best tenor I have ever heard, Jay Parrack.  I became a SG fan on that evening!

If I had to pick one single concert that was the greatest for me, I would pick a Gaither Christmas Homecoming that I attended in the mid '90s.  He had several SG groups with him and it was simply fantastic!  The groups each performed several songs.  After the intermission all the groups sat around the stage and they sang together.

I saw the Kingsmen in PA back in the late 80's and their opening act was the Kingsboys, a teen version of the Kingsmen. It was a good time. They took requests from the audience at one point and did a bunch of them. I was surprised since there is now way to prepare for that. Ray Reese was the base and I remember Arthur Rice being awesome that night. Of course who can forget Anthony Burger on piano?

Stryper!  The one Metal band you may have heard of, that I saw.

I've been to a Gaither concert at the Radison in Merrillville and a Gaither Homecomecoming at Willowcreek (yes Hybel's place). Both concerts were awesome. At Willowcreek the tickets were $28 a piece but they started at 7pm and went till 9:25 then came back on at 9:50 till 11:15. Loved it. Marshall Hall was there filling in for Michael English who had just left. David Phelps was unbelievable! And of course our former IFB boy Mark Lowry was hilarious! got some pics with some of the other singers there.

Side note, their auditorium made FBC's look smaller by comparison.

You won't get butted but you may have to sing Drop kick me Jesus threw the goal post of Life.

I heard the Hylander Singing Men at Youth Conference one year.  ;)

During the summer of 1995, we brought our lawn chairs to the parking lot of a local shopping center and heard the Inspirations in a free concert.  We were expecting our fourth child at the time, and I somewhat dreaded the heat as we had only moved to this state a couple months earlier and the summer had seemed much warmer than our previous northern state.  As I recall, mid-August weather cooled down to the mid-70s that day, and it was quite enjoyable.

We had the privilege of being a part of the "Singing at Sea" cruise in 2005.  There were 10 different groups there including Greater Vision, Legacy 5 (including Roger Bennett before he went to heaven), Gold City, the Inspirations, Squire Parsons (not a "group"), the Hoppers, and others.  We saved from February through October for that trip.

A church about 30 miles from us has several free concerts throughout each year.  The first we went to we heard the Inspirations.  Jon Epley gave us a free CD that evening. They take an offering, and as a great Hacker (ahem....Raider) once pointed out, an offering means it's not really free, so we always make sure to bring a quarter with us when we attend.  Once we gave a whole dollar.  (Just kidding.  We do contribute more than a buck.)

The Collingsworth Family at the same location.  The place was packed.  I love their music!
