Is that a compliment? Or an insult?
It is a compliment for an IFB preacher.

Jack hyles often shared that he never publically disagreed with John Rice's position on store house tithing and other issues until John Rice was dead.
Pastors often lift up the preachers from past generations as hero's, but would never have allowed them to preach in there churches if they were alive today. Most of the "great preachers" of yesteryear are not even close to what we practice on many doctrines & standards.
Why is this???

JH aside, what I put in bold IS the problem on that side of the IFB. If it is Bible it is Bible.
The problem is, that JH and others on that side of the IFB do not want to speak against a position, until someone dies, is because they need them to help build what they are trying to build.
If THAT side of the IFB would become "UNAFFILIATED" Independent Fundamental Baptist they would speak and stand more with scripture and speak out against the ppl in their camp that are not Biblical. Buuuut, they are more interested in the following THEY are creating.
Hence, half the men that graduate from there so say colleges do not stand on Scripture the way they need to because they do not want to offend..........................well unless the women in their church are wearing pants, then you bes believe they will stand for Christ.

If Lee Roberson were in his prime today, Bob Gray would blog negatively about him (possibly in a round-a-bout way). The standards at TTU (dress, music, etc) were definitely lower than the FBCH type of IFB. Yet, Bob Gray honored Lee Roberson during his later years. It does make you wonder.

But also remember JH was a fan of LR. Therefore BG is too.

Numbers does not equal success nor do numbers glorify God. We are to glorify God.
JH was pragmatic during his whole ministry, imho, and pushed it. Let's Baptize More Converts, Let's Go Soulwinning, Let's build an Evangelistic Church, How to Boost Your Church Attendance, are all geared towards numbers.
The IFBX'ers mirrors the Pharisees in Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. How many times do folks talk about getting back to JH and his philosophies.

How well do I know. Most times great men of Gawd use a life's verse after signing a Bible. After standing in line 2 hours, Raider signed my Bible with his name and then his life's book.............NUMBERS!

I know you had your tongue in your cheek as you posted this. But I wish I had been given a free meal at Shakey's Pizza for every time I've heard an IFB or non-demominational pastor use that to prop up his preaching on reaching a certain numbers in attendance.
